Lee, you said "when reverse is selected then the trumpet takes over." That is not backwards. That is exactly how Streather describes it in the quote above.

Sorry maybe I was not clear when I quoted that from the Streather book in the same sentence as describing mine.

On my car when the heater temperature control is turned up it turns on the rear blower and closes the flap to only take air from the trumpet. When I select reverse it opens the flap and draws air from the main engine cooling fan. By all accounts this is the wrong way round.



I'm wondering if the heater tube temp sensor is throwing a spanner in here and if it's broken would it create the same effect by confusing the CCU into thinking it is too hot in there - thus turning the blower on - not sure of the "engine duct too hot" function also activates the flap to pull fresh air in from the top ?

I do appreciate the continued interest in this thread because it is driving me a little nuts and I want to understand what's going on...
