I don't have any abnormal sounds with the car in neutral....

I do have the "rocks in the dryer" sound when the car is in gear and lugging.

This sound is most prevelant in second gear at low rpms.

Not to HJ this thread but looks like you have everything covered. My only small snag was the center light fixture with the backup lights during the re-install. The light fixture has three clips on the bottom and three screw on the top that screws down and seat the fixture in place. You can unscrew those three phillips head screws to raise them to clear the mounting holes as you slide the three clips into position then screw them back down to hold them in place. I hope that make sense and saves you a bit of time.

Now its time to break mine in as I head out for a road trip tonight to Pasadena to tailgate with my old UT buddies on Thursday! I am packing some tools too, just in case.
Thanks for the heads up about the light fixture, I'm sure it'll make more sense as I'm putting it back in. Have fun at the game, The University of Tennessee right? My car originated Knoxville

Default Where's this go?

All the wires are back where they belong in the engine bay and almost all of the various tubes ect. I have one last vacuum tube... anyone know where it might live? Could it be from the heater blower that is now MIA? I looked around in there and didn't see an obvious spot, and the matching #5 piece of tape must have fallen off

Yep, the small diameter nylon vacuum line goes to the heater blower motor lump-o-plastic -- specifically the small damper valve.

I'm glad they got there safe. Only 4 more weeks and we'll be welcoming our newest member to the family I'll be sure to show her the bushings (my first knows what a transmission is already )

Default On the ground

The car is finally on the ground, and I couldn't be happier. I really wanted to get done this week since our daughter is due to be born any day within the next three weeks. Plus tomorrow is the local PCA coffee meet here in the Tricities. Thank you all for your encouragement and help along the way, but I'm calling this project closed

Unfortunately I haven't started him up yet, no way in heck am I going to risk waking up a 37 week pregnant lady lol. Tomorrow morning will be the true deciding point. But... I don't have extra parts, everything is torqued according to the Porsche manual, and I have all the fluids in (and brakes / clutch bleed).

I've said it in this post before but I want to finish with a thank you to those who this couldn't have been possible without. NSully / Andreas for the transmission DIY, Boulderbobo for his engine drop DIY, pcarworkshop crew for numerous DIYs, Steve W. and Jeff at Rennsport / Rothsport for the transmission and questions, Mark D at FD Motorsports for numerous parts and many many questions, Chris Walrod for his generosity and help, Phil at Sunset for getting those parts to me quick. Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing with a generous spirit. It makes my upcoming PSS10 instal a little less scary by comparison.

I have a slight amount of appreciation of what some of the masters of the black art of coding do after spending 2 days working on improvement to a certain web site... just adding a couple of php forms. Painful to a total amateur!

The form SW provider said "no programming required!".
Sure... unless you want it to actually work!
(to be fair, it was only editing but you have to dive in and figure out what to edit)

My suspension install is where this all started. Take your time, read the Porsche manual on how to do it, and read the DIYs. I'm sure you'll have fun (with a few trying moments mixed in).

My mother-in-law got me those glasses, I think they're great. I think of all my undergraduate work when drinking from them. The "no programming required"... I've heard that story before, you're experience mimics what I've seen.

So he started up! I'm very pleased. I honestly couldn't tell much difference when I took it out but I was babying it and listening for things falling off lol. It was stalling whenever I coasted with the clutch in, but it seems to be getting better... or I'm adjusting how I drive.

I do have to engine codes off the durametric 108 and 107. Anyone know what these might mean? I stopped by my friendly mechanic to get the codes, and he didn't have the book handy to look them up. I've taken off so much and changed many things... but it does seem to be running ok

How is the car running ? I am in Pa and am thinking of shipping my 1996 C4S to Steve to get the trans sorted out and the engine rebuilt ?

Unfortunately I haven't had much opportunity to drive my car out on the street. Mainly because I busted up a rim and all I have are my race wheels with Hoosier A6s on them... which I try not to take out too often. From what I did get to drive, the LWF caused a bit of stalling at first, but the car learned what it was doing and went back to normal operation fairly quickly. It revs much faster now that I shed the weight. The transmission shifts solid and so far I'm happy with it. The real test will be on the course to see if it jumps out of 2nd gear still (I doubt it will). Steve and Jeff at Rennsport / Rothsport were very informative and helpful. You can't go wrong with their knowledge and experience.
