Default Agreed on Value Insurance in MASS

I have been told that CHARTIS is offering Agreed-on-Value insurance in Mass.

You will need an appraisal from a licensed appraiser (I paid $275) and the policy is costing me about the same as my old policy.

Definitely worth it if your insurance company is going to pull out NADA or Kelly's for a value check.

Be sure to ask them if/when you need to get the car reappraised. On some policies they depreciate the car from the appraisal value so you need to reappraise it periodically to "re-up" your level of coverage.

DC - How did you find a licensed appraiser? Was your experience with the appraiser you selected a good one? Thanks for sharing the insurance information.

Alfie gets the credit for finding the guy for me. The car was in for service and he arranged it all. I helped a little by researching some comps and emailing them up but the appraiser had found a ton of his own.

I am sure it helped to have Alfie there to meet him and explain full service history, condition and exactly what it would take (in terms of money) to find and buy my same car today.

The bottom line, for me, was having a number that the insurance company would honor that I can live with. It is about DOUBLE what NADA/KBB had for the car and the policy will be written for this amount.

I will let you know how often this needs to be done but my understanding is that it does NOT depreciate from this value...I am paying to hold it.
