Default brake light on dash came on?

Hi, the brake light on my dash came on. It is the one just above the e-brake light. I had just replaced the fan shroud and was doing a little clean up of the engine compartment. Any ideas? thanks Phil

Check your fluid level and brake pad sensors.

Yes, the wear sensors are fragile.

Ouch, I topped off my brake fluid and drove the 3 miles to work. The brake light stayed on the entire time. Went out for a quick errand and checked the resevoir again, empty! Limped home the slow way with my hand on the e-brake just in case. Luckily, had great pedal the whole way. When I got home, I checked in the truck area, nothing, checked under the car and it is covered with brake fluid on the passenger side, (right side) near the inner-axle area. I need to remove some of the forward covers to see if I can ascertain the source of the leak. Any ideas? I have never had any issues with the brakes on the car, so much for that record........... Thanks Phil

Your car has dual hydraulic circuits for brakes, so one circuit could fail and you would still have some, although less than normal, brake functioning. It could be that you have a failure in one of the components in one circuit which is allowing brake fluid to escape and thus triggering the warning light.

Clutch slave sits on top of the tranny.Right in the middle. Misleading leakage due to the tranny cover.

Wink

Got the car back. It turned out that one of my brake lines came loose of the brake master cylinder. Brake fluid was just passing straight from the resevior in the trunk right on to the bottom covers, then out everywhere, made a major mess. Got it hooked up and good to go. Whew, no charge...........It is good to have a trusted mechanic. All the best, thanks for the input. Phil
