Wink Amazing adhesive product for canvas patching repair

I bought a 993 cab 10 years ago that had the proverbial holes on one side of the canvas roof from the top's latching pins piercing through the canvas. The 2 Holes in the canvas are above rear of window, as described with previous member posts...

I immediately replaced the elastic straps that are on the roof canvas retracting bar that helps push back the top when opening to clear the latching pins.....and I always made sure the canvas was out of the way of the pins as it fully opened.

The elastic straps are worn out again and I'll have to replace someday. In 1999 it cost $60 for 2 hours of work by a top specialist. Today it probably would cost a couple hundred, if not more....

I patched the holes from the inside with clear sailboat sail tape and that did the job for the last 10 years. Holes did not become larger or tear and the tape helped with the strength of the canvas roof, etc...

The holes on the outside of the top started to weather and fray from the elements, after 10 years, so I decided to patch on the outside with small canvas patches - 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. It has greatly improved the outside appearance of the top tremendously since the canvas patches are a perfect match. I left the clear sailboat tape on the inside of the roof canvas. I got the canvas material from a Porsche top supplier, whoi provides samples to match.

I ordered these canvas top samples to match my blue top and used a product called E-6000 adhesive found at Michael's craft store chain to use as the adhesive for the canvas on canvas patching.

I also developed a small tear near the side of the rear window, and patched that spot also with a small patch. So that gives me two small areas with patches....

This E6000 adhesive product is waterproof, also stays flexible after it drys, which is great as the top closes and opens, and has very strong adhesive properties.

Thought I would pass this along to others in same boat......who don't want to spend the cash to replace the top, but want to elongate its useful life and still want it to look pretty good for a aged canvas top................

I have kept the plastic window extrememly clear with Meguiars plastic cleaner, so the top should go for another 10 years with fingers crossed........
