Congratulations! I don't do any part of the drive on the hi-way, there's no way I can keep it under 60 mph out there. All my driving is on secondary roads. (But I don't live in an area like So Cal either)

Great news, glad to hear of your success. To answer the last question, readiness codes are a demonic plan devised by someone at Bosch or some factory in Germany designed to produce total frustration and anger in owners of certain
Porsches and BMW's. Actually, they are not limited to German cars, you should see the procedure to reset readiness codes for some Volvos. Impossible.
Actually they are monitors that check that status of specific components of your cars operating system, specifically related to emissions for the most part. It's part of the OBDII cars only. That's why many states won't let you even begin a smog check without the being in the
correct set.

I've been going through this drive cycle process for 2 weeks, have done the drive
cycle from cold start 6 times with no success. It's extremely frustrating. So, I got my dealership to confirm that the codes would not reset, in writing, called the smog referee and for 8 dollars and 15 cents (exact change only please), they will confirm that and smog the car. I'm going to check but I believe that I then will have 2 years to get the codes ready for the next smog check. I have an appointment next Monday morning. Can't wait.

He'll learn that there's a lot of sarcasm on this forum. I think we like it that way. We do need a sarcastic smilie though.

I had a similar problem last week. I had success after only two cycles. It must have been the cold start that made the difference.

If I haven't learned the sarcasm technique in the last 5 years, I doubt I ever will
I guess I'm just in a bad mood with this readiness thing and take everything
too seriously. I was just thinking, could a leaky gas cap cause a failure on the
evap test? Seems like that's one of the 5 readiness codes that are often the problem... but on the other hand, seems like the other codes should reset
even if there was a problem with that cap leaking. I'm losing my mind trying
to figure out what why this thing won't reset. One more try today then off
to the referee....
