Default What exactly was the X51 option

Dear fellow forum members I've searched but without complete success.

Question: What exaclty was the X51 option on a 993 C2 -1995 (RoW)

I know that the engine and exhaust was upgraded but I would like more details. About parts, engine spec. etc. that they put in.

Does anyone know

Many thanks in advance'

I don't know that it was called X51(I thought that was a 996 option) but there was a 3.8 liter upgrade available in Europe for all 993s. It consisted of 102mm p/c, RS heads and cams and DME. I tcold be dealer instaklled on vram and non v-ram engines.

The 3.8s w/ RS cams do sound very different from the stockers

3.8 engine option, first examples were non varioram approx 281bhp, then when 993RS was produced the 300bhp 3.8 with varioram was fitted,,rare in europe, because it was pointlessly expensive,,,an RS engine without the gear ratios and suspension,,,no thanks!

AFAIK, X51 was only used on 'wet' Porsches (996, 997, Cayman) and even on the Cayenne, where it was the E51 Powerkit.

There is an old thread here on this topic which confirms what has already been said here:

Two Euro members have X51's. TOGA and DELANOBE.... AFAIK.

But although the claims are for 300 HP = i.e as much as RS, it has a milder cam and different overlap... go figure!

Aren't these called the Swiss Special or something. A lot of the C4 and C4S had the 3.8L engine, but as you point out wasn't the same as the 3.8L in the RS.

RPM had two 993 TT's that had an X50 option. One is still avail.

http://www.rpmsportscars.com/door28.htm

Apparently they made 13 of these. So I guess it is possible an X51 option existed in the 993 range too.

Seinfeld just sold a 964 Speedster recently that had 3.8 in it. Perhaps that was an X51 too.

As Monique stated, X51 was optional on Euro 993s. Available both as a factory fitted option and retrofit. Fairly rare but they still pop up for sale now and again.

It seems that this is a fairly unknown option.

I know for a fact that X51 was a factory install option on the 993 c2 and it included a 3,8l engine and sport exhaust. But i would like specifics, if anyone has all the details please contribute.

It was a bastard option; you could get a full RS for +- 30 K more or spend 20K for the engine at 3.8 minus the right cams etc...

As Clubsport1 pointed out, not a good value for money. Good value for the subsequent owners though :-)

I still don't see any reference to X51 for 993s but Tequipment parts listed are;

993.100.903.00 power kit for M64/05 & 06 consisting of slip fit 102mm cylinders & pistons, RS cams, & pulley

993.100.904.00 as above for cars w/ M573(a/c)

000.044.100.00 power kit for M64/21 as above + RS cyl heads + Rs intakes manifold + RS mufflers + X50 DME + assorted pieces to accommodate these parts

there were also several power kits for M64/60 but none of them have X51 appellation either

Ok, that is a MY97 RoW 993 coupe w/ lots of leather and seating options, sport suspension,

according to Streather X51 was an engine upgrade for a 996tt(perhaps a mistake in his book? Why not email him he does hang around the e-mail list), X50 was 430hp 993tt upgrade

COO is a car made for Germany

x28 is a maple steering wheel

no idea what XE8 might be
