I have a 993 C2S, in hong kong.. i am looking around at ways to get some more power. Anyone have any suggestions for upgrading the onboard computer.. ie.. new chip?
Chris - welcome to the forum. I suggest to look at a custom gearbox with shorter gears and a RS clutch and flywheel. There is another posting with more details and feedback why this might be more effective than increasing HP.
There are 2 chips for the 993 that come to mind and also enjoy a good reputation. The Steve Wong chip and also Steve Weiner. Steve Weiner may be the best 993 guy on this board. Do a search, and you'll have plenty of reading and info.
There are a LOT of performance options for your car,.....
The very first things I ask my customers is "What is your budget?" and "What do you use the car for?" as that frames what is not only prudent, but possible. Remember, many things can be done incrementally to save "damage " to the pocketbook.

How's things in Hongkas man ?
More power is good but you gotta be careful in HK as the law doesn't like people modifying their cars. Were do you take your car for servicing mate ?
I didn't do any modifications in HK - but once I got to Aus - man - I just let the good times roll.
But if my car was still in HK, I'd probably just do suspension and a chip and call it a day. There is just no good places for a nice run in HK, but there are great curvy roads to cruise on - like to Shek O on a nice day, and up to the Galleria at the Peak - which was were I use to park.
Definetly get the chip - I use SWong chip and I get better mileage with it and better response and a little more power. It's a no brainer with the chip -it'll end up saving you on fuel which is crazy expensive in HK. Cost me 300US I think - and good service - and easy to install and remove.
Don't bother with exhaust - if you where anywhere else do it for the sound - but in HK - you'd have a good chance of being pulled over. Do you have a tip or manual - manuals rare in HK. The boys say gearing like flywheel are good for better performance - but relatively big bucks and only for a manual.
For me - I'd make sure the car is running good and tiptop - things like wheels are really important in HK - the weather and roads suck. I think suspension upgrade to PSS would be great for HK driving. Chip was a major improvement. And just make sure every thing else is running well.
There are a couple of boys on the forums from HK as well - some have done some major modifications - and they should have some good feedback for you. Why don't you boys get together and go for a rennlist drive and take some pictures of your cars and the scenery for the rest of us.
Oh - get some HID lights for the car man - major improvement. Just run down to Mongkok - get a HID kit - I used Beam Boy H1 8000 lumens - really bright. But best improvement over any mod. Good for night driving in HK - stock lights are crap - just like the speakers.
Cheers Chris- I'll be in HK next friday for 4 days (I'm in China currently) and then back to China after- If you want to meet up, get a coffee and talk mods, drop me a PM and we can meet up- I'm usually on the kowloon side, but wherever is fine.. You ever do the sun. am drive out to (cant remember the name of the cafe..)

Chris - Are you the pilot with the white C2S with the Gemballas? Sweet ride....saw it parked a few weeks ago. For chips your options are the one from Steve Wong or from Steve Weiner (who has posted above)...many Rennlisters have installed Steve Weiner's chips and have had good results. Also Road&Track will do a Revo remap...I don't have any personal experience with the Revo set-up but a friend had it done on his tip cab and is very happy with the results, although it is a bit pricey. But IMHO although you will get some power gains with a new chip/reflash, most of the gains is from better driveability/response. If you want big performance gains, you pretty much have to regear the tranny, install a TPC supercharger or install a Stage 1 or 2 from Protomotive.
