Leave him alone about his ceiling! That's the only part of my garage that looks better than his!

Looks awesome Chuck, like a high end (rather smallish) showroom

Thanks for all the kind comments. After doing all of the work myself, I appreciate them. Until my Rennlist brothers pointed out the ceiling, I never really gave it much thought. Now you have me thinking…. Perhaps the next project out there will be a dropped ceiling. Something I could easily remove to access the things in the rafters.

Between mopping the floor and cleaning the mirrors, I’ll be spending some time out there. That’s a good thing!

It’s a 530I with OEM M5 19” rims. One of the nicest highway cars I have ever owned. 30+ MPG on the road. The comfort seats are amazing. I test drove an M5. It is a beast. I loved it. But, it’s a high revving engine that gets poor gas mileage. For what I wanted, the 530I was a better fit. The 550I is another great car. In many ways better than the M5. Its biggest downfall is the MPG. Take a look at http://forums.5series.net/index.php?

Yeah, right now I have to settle for a stereo and 27” TV. Perhaps it’ll get upgraded later.

One of my kids mentioned a disco ball….. ahhhh, no.

Good eye. We have two horses on our property. When the kids were young we had 4 with a pony. We have some great riding trails within walking distance. That is one of the things I am looking forward to when I retire, more time in the saddle. I also have one grandchild (18 months) and another one on the way. I can see another pony in our future.

I think the mirrors would drive me nuts. I do like the floor and was thinking of doing that to my garage. I have a 5 bay here that I painted the floors the light grey with urethane and its fully sheetrocked and painted white...ceilings and walls. Then placed the mandatory Porsche posters strategically on the walls throughtout.

How is the VCT holding up? Looks like you are waxing it. How often do you wax and is it slippery?

I have thought about doing this too Chuck. Great job. Can you tell me how you "anchored" the panels to the ceiling and floor? Any pics or this? Thanks.

The VCT is holding up well considering the traffic it gets. The tires leave faint brown marks over time from the rubber where the tire sits that can’t be removed. I have accepted the small blemishes for the overall effect. Every 6 months I rent a high-speed buffer for $45 dollars. For the first year I used a rejuvenator that worked well. The last time I put another two coats of wax on and buffed it out. About every 6 weeks or so I’ll pull every thing out of the garage and sweep it out, then use the yard blower and blow it out then wet mop it. For me, it all therapy. I enjoy it. The first time I cleaned all the mirrors, it was the same thing. Kind of like detailing and waxing the cars.

And, I have no problem with it being slippery at all. I am in So Cal so I don't see snow and just some rain. I have never had enough water on the floor to be concerned with it being slippery.

It was very easy. The tracks on the ground are the primary support for the door. I drilled holes into the concrete floor and used those plastic expanders (I can’t recall their official name) to put into the holes and screw into. The top rail is merely a guild for the doors. The sliding doors at my rental are suspended from the top rail. These do not work that way. I could take photos for you it you want, but there is not much to see. Lowe’s has several displays set up. They are what sold me that it was doable.

I had to custom order the door because of their size. The two large openings are 8’ by 8 feet. The ones off the ground 4’ 8” by 13’75”. The total cost for all of the mirrored doors and hardware were $1084 plus tax. The size and custom cuts ran it up a little. I did get an estimate from one company to do the job for me. Their bid was over $5000. Thank God I can still do these things on my own.

Thanks very much for the detailed response. I am going to go check them out!

That's an awesome effect having your mirrored images of your cars like that. Never seen anyone else do it! What prompted you to go for this in the first place? I'm the type that I only do something that I see successfully done by someone else.

If you do ceiling tiles in your ceiling, I think you will be VERY happy with the results. It's alot of extra work though, so if you're pleased with your current efffect, I'd say forgetaboutit.
