After a week of hot weather I decided to do the fan switch mod. I followed the directions from p-car.com, except I chose to splice into the harness below the dash. I cut the black/green wire, wired in the switch, and I have nothing. Before I did this mod I tested the fan by jumpering the low and high speed fan at the relay box so I know it is functional. I know the switch isn't the problem because when I remove the wires from the switch (breaking the circuit) the fan still does not operate. Even if wired incorrectly the fan should run at times if the circuit is broken. Right? Is it possible I cut a different black/green wire? Thanks in advance.
Nope thats not it. Thought about that too. If I just cut the wire, did nothing else, the fan should run at high speed all the time. That is why I think that I cut the wrong wire. But I do not see any other blk/grn wires.
Would the override switch run the fan with the engine off, ignition on? Jumpered the fuse when I got home to make sure it was still operational and it worked.
Don't know if you got this sorted out yet or not, but I looked at the pcar.com article, and it says to cut the green/black wire, and you said you cut black/green. "Green/black" means a green wire with a black stripe. "Black/green" would be black with a green stripe.
I tried looking under my dash to confirm, but I couldn't see without taking out the CCU. I don't know if there even is a black/green, I just thought I'd throw this out there.
Bruce is correct; Also IIRC, the "green/black" wire to cut is from the lower, wider(more connections) connector on the back of the CCU. I didn't remove my CCU FWIW.
Yes that was the problem. I forgot to update the post. After re-reading the article I discovered my error. I corrected the wiring and the fan works as advertised. Now I need a 944 switch to make it look pretty!
