Metal in oil.

Its great that the filter does its job! I wouldnt loose too much sleep on this. Usually damage from something cratering is catastropic. Resulting in 1000's of sizeable metal chunks in the oil.
Also what Steve said - if youve never had your engine worked on, Im sure they are due. Next time you have your clutch changed, take the time to do an engine R&R. At 120k, my motor looked good except for deteriorating lifter sleeves.... Also a good time to do other things, wires, seals etc.

Just fyi & not to get off topic but with regards to the statement about aircraft engine oil... For aircraft operating for hire (Part 135 or flight training, etc) a 100 hour inspection is required. This generally includes oil & filter change, screen inspection, etc..

There was no oil on the magnetic drain plug. Just really fine particles in the folds of the filter. I did cut it open with a sawsall, but the particles are really fine, like sifted flour. So Im sure that it's from inside somewhere. If I were collect all of them from both filters, I'd probably have a volume less than the exposed tip of a ballpoint pen. I'm coming to the conclusion that it's normal wearing.

If you cut an oil filter open with ANY kind of saw, the observations are completely invalid. No matter how careful one is, case material (ferrous) will be found in the folds of the filter media and this why there are special filter cutters made for this express purpose.
These tools look like a large tubing cutter and thus, the only thing to use if an inspection is to have any value. Longacre makes one,.....
