Of all those knocking the 40th anniversary 996, how many of you have driven one? I spent considerable time with one and its an awesome car (granted not in the same league as a gt3) w/ x51 it pulled like a demon, tight handling and good looks (well as good as a 996 can look). Don't knock it before you try it.

I would go with the one YOU like better after driving them both within 24 hours of each other, preferable, both on the same day back to back. Then, you'll find, you don't actually need our help
.
You'll know. If you're still not sure, before you do anything...
watch this video that you may have already seen.

If you can still resist after seeing the video, and I'm not sure how you could, I guess... buy the newer, probably a bit more reliable, faster, car.
The problem with the newer car is... it doesn't look near as HOT as the 993![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Just my opinion though. Your eyes may see something different. The A/C might work better though in the newer car. But... c'mon, did you see the video yet?
Good luck with this VERY hard decision.

Thank you all for your unbiased opinions (hmm), i was expecting the slant towards the 993 given my choice of audience, but i do appreciate your comments. Yes the 993 is a much better looking car, and has a soul and much better street cred and will hold it's value. My choice would be a GT3, however as it will be my only car, i need rear seats for my son. Have considered a 996TT, but guys dont forget, I'm in Aus, a good condition TT will set be back around $150K min, (993TT are getting nearly $170K), where as the 996 40th and 993C4S $120K, which is really the max i want to spend, yes we pay a lot for our porsches. Will drive them and keep you posted.

Had a 99 996 with factory aero kit, had a 2002 996, sport package, seats and some other nice options, on a daily basis there is a lot to be said for the newer generation such air conditioning and creature comforts. I ended up going back to the 993 for the "snugger" fit and feel. Feels more like a sports car. Your impressions may differ. Let us know how it goes. My vote is the 993, it's a classic.

That's in Aussie dollars, Redblur, so take about 15% off that for the US conversion. Need to remember, we have a 27% luxury car tax plus our GST, adds 37% to the cost of our new porsches and that filters down into the second hand market.
Nice ride prshguy, that car looks awesome. Have you upgraded the car in anyway?

the anniversary addition will run circles around the 993. the a/c in the 996 will keep you from roasting like a manifold chicken in the Ausie sun. it's smoother, it's quieter, it has more interior space. it's not as pretty as a 993, but considering the price and mileage of the two, it seems a no brainer to me.

Look dude, FORGET the 996, ok? Get that nasty, ugly designation out of your head. Here are 10 reasons to go for the 993:
1) Last of the aircooled 911s
2) Last of the hand-assembled cars
3) Final design evolution of a 34 year-old chassis, the longest in the history of the automobile
4) The last of the 911s to use the dry sump, race-bred Mezger block in the entire lineup
5) The last of the 911s under Dr. Ing. Ferdinand Porsche's direction (he died in 98 along with the 993)
6) The last of the 911s that hold value
7) The last of the 911s that have that solid tank feel
8) The last of the 911s with the old analog dials
9) The last of the 911s without cupholders
10) The last of the 911s that have that intoxicating scent of warm oil on the outside and Porsche leather on the inside

Test drove an anniversary edition , it's faster, quieter, smoother, and yes cooler a/c but I did not get the emotive response I got driving a 993. Hence I bought 993, no regrets here.
