993 Ruf Turbo VS 993 TT
I cam across this car on ebay a 1995 993 RUF turbo - specs seem pretty close to a standard 993 TT. Just wonder is there any real valve to buying a Ruf turbo vs a 993 TT? By the price of todays market there seem to be a lot of 993 TT for 20k less than this Ruf Turbo.
Are there any major differernces other than a Brand name?

To my knowledge, Ruf had 3 993 models:
BTR: single-turbo based on the NA 993
Turbo R: 490 HP twin-turbo based on 993TT
CTR: 520+ HP twin-turbo based on 993TT
RUF VIN cars are always worth *much* more money than conversions (presumably because they're very rare). This car is a conversion, but in general, RUF conversions hold their value very well especially relative to other modified cars.
IMO, RUF cars aren't better than the other top tuners, but like Porsche they've done a great job establishing their brand and it translates into $$$ value.
Personally I would gladly pay $20K more for a Turbo R vs a 993TT.
A BTR is a much harder call. I think its main advantage is it's very rare. If you like having a very unusual car, then it could be worth the premium.
Also I believe RUF no longer do BTR conversions, so this should continue to be a rare car.

Outside of the branding...would there be any major performance advantages? The BTR seems to be a 420 HP car...not much more than a 993TT at 408 HP
Obviously the Turbo R and CTR have much more power – but I’m sure the price compensate for the addition power on those models.

There are some pretty big differences between this car and a 993TT. RUF developed this car before Porsche introduced the 993TT. They took a narrow body RWD car and installed a single turbo (as well as many other engine/ecu upgrades.)
It may not be faster than a 993tt (I know this particular BTR - and it is likely faster than most stock 993TT), it is very different. It is an absolute beast when the turbo kicks in.
And this particular car is very nice. Rear seat delete, no sunroof, and all of the RUF bits make it valuable to the right buyer. I saw it (again) yesterday at RUF and it looks fantastic.
Disclaimer: I am a RUFaholic. And my Turbo R is different than this BTR. Turbo R's are modified 993TT cars.

Okay, that one just seems odd to me.
"Over the past 18 months, this car has been thoroughly gone through including a COMPLETE Engine Rebuild done by our RUF Technicians."
A recent engine rebuild by a reputable shop adds considerable value, IMHO.

Patrick,
Does the hood/bumper paint match better than the pics show?

Hey Mark,
Yes, I have seen the car several times indoors and out and the paint is consistent.
I have also driven this car and can say that the right pedal works very well.
Feel free to PM or email me if you want more detailed information.

Pong has a black ruf btf and probably answer all your questions.
Id much rather a TurboR, but this car will be lighter and more tossable as its also 2wd.
