Need Help With Porsche I Bought in New York
My wife bid on this car last minute and we ended up winning it. I was hoping that somebody here has seen it or knows something about. It looks like a really nice deal, and hopefully someone else here knows something about it.
I also need a reputable shop in or around East Hampton New York.
I intend on getting a PPI done and then flying out to see the car and maybe drive it home some time next week.
I am attaching the Ebay listing number 300336219707
Just copy and paste that into Ebay and the auction will come up.
The VIN is WP0AA2991SS322894 in case it helps.
Thank You for all the help!

Looks like you got a good deal. I'd run a carfax just to make sure everything is in order, and hopefully the PPI comes back clean. Put some MY '02 rims on her and get the ride height adjusted and you'll be set!
Cheers,
Paul.

"A 6% (fully US-tax-deductible) buyer's premium will be added to the highest bid." What is that about? I would think that is against eBay policy to allow a 6% increase in the price no matter how good the cause.
Definitely run a carfax check and pay for a good ppi. Hope everything works out for you on the vehicle.

It's also, well, rude. Why in the world should the buyer be coerced to "donate" to the seller's charity as part of a used car transaction? What does one have to do with the other? Why not say in the auction, "A 6% buyer's premium will be added to the highest bid to cover Christmas presents for my children, and maybe a nice seafood dinner for my wife, and if there's some money left over I need a new pair of sneakers."
WTF.

Wow, thanks for all the quick responses.
I know, the 6% charity seems a little steep. Since the dealer is on consighment I will ask him to split it with me and see how that turns out. At least it seems like a legitimate charity
Yeah, my wife and I have been looking for a 993 as our first Porsche for some time now. I got home from work to her telling me "I bought a car!" Pretty good stuff.
Thanks again,
Peter

Even with the 6%, $23k for the car seems like a good deal... assuming it is in the condition the sellers claims it is in. The PPI will tell me a lot if I can find a good shop out there.

Interesting business model. Appears the 6% is split between the consigning dealer/seller and the charity. Seller's web site says "There is a minimum 6 percent buyer’s premium or seller’s donation added to each vehicle auctioned for charity. After expenses, 90 percent of the donation is given to the host charity...". I wonder how much the "expenses" are.
So the 6% donation on $21,700 is $1,300. How much actually goes to the charities as the amounts claimed to have been donated to charities on the seller's web site appear relatively modest.
Being a "charity" auction creates a halo.
Consignment sales a "Foundation"?

Wonder how much gets contributed to "The Retreat".

Impossible to determine anything from the low resolution photos except for:
1. Appears to need a phone-ectomy. See box on pass side of console
2. Rear bumper by right tailpipe pulled out from scraping high driveway apron
3. Front bumper scratches
4. Low option car - no hi-fi sound, cassette, no motorsound, no (early) sports seats, etc.
5. 34 Carfax records!! Either lot's of service & registration renewals or lot's of owners or accidents.
Amazingly little is stated about the car in the ad copy: black, 17" wheels, Lo-Jack, 6 speed manual trans, very well maintained and services up to date, clean, 48,000 miles, garaged, and a few minor scratches. Photos skillfully taken, e.g., driver's seat photo ends just above the driver's seat bolster which is the highest wear area.
Price is great unless major issues are identified.

chaoscreature:
Might want to mention to the seller that you have a non-negotiable 6% discount policy for being 'such a nice guy'.
Where do you call home?
Cheers,
Paul.
