Default power steering fluid leak?

Several days ago, I noticed what appears to be a small ATF (red and oily fluid) puddle on the floor of the garage. It looks like it would be between the 2 front wheels. I'm assuming that it is power steering fluid and it has quickly gotten worse. I have not yet crawled under the car to take a better assessment.

Question is, are there known issues with front seals or hoses? What are my odds of an easy fix or major expense?

The car is a 95 C2 with 40K miles on the clock.

TIA,
Don

Sounds like your power steering rack seals are toast. Very common at the age of these cars. I just did mine last year and 53K miles.

Sorry but you are looking at $1000 - $1300 bill. Estimate about $500-$700 for a rebuilt ZF unit and about the same for labor and realignment.

Dang....who sells a good rebuilt unit? I sure don't want to do the job again.
Thanks,
Don

Steering rack is probably shot if the leak is up front. Not much else to leak up there. BTW, our cars should be serviced with either Pentosin CHF 11S or the newer CHF 202 hydraulic fluid which are dark green in color.

BTW, I miss my younger days of landscaping in the Shaker Heights area. That was the era where I learned to appreciate nice cars and houses. Damn those old money people.

You want a ZF rebuilt unit. There are many places that sells them. You can start with the typical places: Pelican, Sunset, etc.

Here is the part from Pelican. They want ~$1400 - $400 for the core exchange. (~$1000 total).

That seems higher than what I remember paying for mine a little over a year ago. Others will chime in on good places to get one.

Anyone know of a rebuild kit? If I can rebuild calipers I can do this, assuming that someone somewhere is nice enough to offer one.

Hey Van,
My wife and I fell in love with Shaker Heights when we moved to Cleveland about 12 years ago. We live in a very cool (but very modest by SH standards) English Tudor. Lotta rich folks in Shaker Heights, but alas, we are not them.
All the best,
Don
