Those of you with stock engines don't need to worry about this, but for anyone who modifies their engine, be REALLY careful about using an oil catch can. After reading of another blown engine possibly from the same cause, I figured I'd post my recent engine grenade incident.
I (incorrectly) thought I had some oil leaking from my oil tank vent so I temporarily installed a home-brew oil catch can. It got clogged, then the crankcase pressurized, then lots of problems occur. Oil backs up in the heads, RMS blows out, inner-most piston ring (oil ring) can blow, you get oil in the combusion chamber.... = bent rod. The pin is thus pulled on your engine grenade.
I promised my wife I'd sell my Protomotive turbo kit to pay for the new engine. So that'll get posted up soon... (but I kind of hope it doesn't sell so I can install it again. shhhh.)

Eric,
Bad luck. I think that you should be proud of the build that you did, though. You are a pioneer! But after all you have put into your car, I'm glad that it will be back on the road ( and track) soon.
Bang for the buck...re-gear the transmission...
