Default Headlight adjustment problem

After installing 'in the bucket' HID's, I re-adjusted the headlights per the owners manual. After a couple of night drives, things weren't right.

My passenger side headlight is way off. Points all the way to the right. I don't know how I did this but I suspect I 'stripped' the mechanism because it will not re-adjust (turn left on lower adjustment hex head to move headlight to left does nothing-many turns). Vertical adjustment works per the owners manual instructions.

I doubt anyone has pulled this bone head move but any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

chuck

Hi Chuck,

I stripped the adjuster on one of my headlights. There are some plastic pieces in the mechanism, so it is not hard to strip.

Is it possible that the H1 bulb is not correctly seated? If the spring clip twists, the bulb shifts from the focal point of the projector lens ....

When I pulled my headlights recently, the low beams had the classic wilted plastic tabs for the retainer spring ..... soon fixed with the $2 stainless clip & spring repair kit from Porsche - although, perhaps you've already done this.

I stripped one. There are at least two of us. I ended up buying a new assembly from Pelican. OUCH!

Thanks.

Garth-I did the spring clip update before the HID's. But when I discovered the problem, I opened up the back of the headlight bucket to see if all was well. Everything was. I wish that had been it.

Rich-you have a pm.

Just curious: are the Litronics lamps and the conventional OEM housings the same? The Litronics have sensors and a control unit for self-leveling, right? But are the projectors themselves identical?

The later bi-xenon litronics have a mask for low and high beam. Are the early 993 ones a xenon low beam and a halogen high beam combo?

The reason I ask is because I was told that retrofitting aftermarket HIDs in non-Litronics buckets aren't a good idea because the housing is meant only for halogen and not xenon, therefore you won't ever get the proper cut-off or light projection(?)

I'm not so sure that's true. The projectors themselves look the same. I put in aftermarket HIDs and there seems (visually) to be no issue with glare and cutoff.

Anybody know for sure? I've searched all over the internet and can't come up with anything conclusive.

HID should not be installed in non projector headlights because the beam pattern is different, you get a lot of dissipated(as opposed to focused) light and therefore glare. Saying that I put them in my 964 simply because the original halogen were trying to kill me in the dark. All 993's are projector low beam so they're fine for HID.

HID's are only fitted on low beam, they take too long to fire up were used as high beam flash.

Thanks for the reply. I realize all that but my question is are the projectors in the 993 halogen system identical to the Litronics? Or, are the Litronics projectors completely different?

I was told not to put in HIDs into the regular projectors (by one of those busy bee know-it-all type of persons ) I realize the Litronics have self-leveling and by law all HID systems are to have leveling control and headlamp washers. But aside from the that, is there any issue (e.g., improper cutoff, glare, etc?) Are the projectors and lenses the same in the end?

I dont think the Litronic projectors are different, complete units for sale on ebay say 94-98 so its safe to assume they're the same as halogen.

I have HID in my 94 993 and they're superb, cut off is correct as is beam spread, however euro spec cars have headlight height adjustment.

I would ignore the busy bee know it all. They work just fine, and I have yet to get honked at or flashed by oncoming traffic in three years' of use.

Yeah, I have them in mine and no problem either. These cars sit low as it is anyway. But the busy bee is saying the projectors are different and I shouldn't have a xenon bulb in them

According to the PET, the projectors look identical in both systems.
