Default Another brake repair question

Hi
Thanks to everyone for answering my brake DIY questions. One more -

I'm planning on leaving the calipers on the car and just changing the pads.

With the pads removed, but the caliper still on the car, is there enough finger room to replace the spider damping plates? Am I supposed to glue the replacement spider damping plates to the caliper piston or do they just pop in?

Thanks again

Yes, there is enough room. The spiders stick in the caliper pistons by the spring on the back of the spider.

You didn't say how you were removing the spiders from the old pads though to get the pads out without the spiders (previos thread perhaps). I have had to remove calipers to get pads and spiders out in one piece.

spiders pop into caliper piston first, then slide pads into place. Make sure the pistons are fully retracted before you do this

I assumed that I could slip a putty knife between the old pad and the spider to separate them and then just lift the pad out. But I have never done this - will this work? I was going to buy new spiders for the reassembly

a putty knife works fine. I use that method with every pad change.
