Default Fister-Dipietro SSK Installed!

Just got the Fister-DiPietro Motorsports Short Shift Kit installed earlier this morning at the "Fister Ranch", and I kept wondering to myself - Why didn't it do this sooner???? I have always been somewhat skeptical of short shift kits, since they seem more like a gimmick to me (I've had a UUC SSK for my E36 M3 in the past). So when I tried the shifter on FisterD's car at the Parts Heaven Swap Meet, I was thoroughly impressed at how the SSK tightened up the slack/slop, in addition to reducing shift throw. I guess replacing the old forward rod with its aging ball cups is well worth it. Coupled with the infamous "Golden Rod", throws are even more precise, with only a minor increase in effort.

I'm very happy with this upgrade, and I would recommend it to everyone with a NA 993. It is also a very easy DIY, with no special tools needed. Thanks again, Mark and Darin.

It was half and half. Mark and I got our hands dirty while Darin "supervised" the install......

Cool! I have found the 993 to be pretty easy to wrench on so far...

I need to drop my engine soon..... I'm hoping it goes as well as the other diy projects...

Bob, what work are you planning to do with the engine out?

I have a couple of noisy hydraulic valve lifters....I think you can change them with the engine in the car but I think it is a lot easier with the engine out.

While the engine and transmission are out I figured I would do the 60k tune + a couple of upgrades

valve lifters
lwfw & clutch
timing chain cover gaskets
upper valve covers
plugs and wires
power steering belt
distributor caps
distributor rotors

I've been studying up on the drop and trying to block out some time to get the project started.

Are there other things I should do while the E/T are out?

Thanks,

Bob-

Bob,

Are you sure the noise is coming from the lifters? I went down the same path a couple years ago, only to realize eventually that the noise was coming from worn valve guides.... Anyway, the lifters on the intake side would be much easier to replace with the engine out.

How about cleaning out the SAI ports while you have the engine out?

Hi Mike, I have had both an independent and a certified Porsche dealer listen to my car and neither could positively id the noise...ugh! I'm not sure there are a lot of techs left around (at least in CO) who are really in tune with this generation p-car.

I hope its not the valve guides. How would i diagnose worn valve guides?

Yes I probably will do the SAI flush. Thanks for the reminder.

Sorry everyone to derail this thread.

The FDM SSK is really a nice upgrade.
