Default OT: Check out my new toy

With my 993 being pretty well sorted, I'm not finding that much to do, but just drive it (poor me ). So I picked up a new (to me) weekend/track day toy to play with:

It's an '81 Scirocco with Euro headlamps, coilover suspension, neuspeed sway bars and strut tower brace, 2.0 liter engine, close ratio tranny, and a SS Borla exhaust system.

Sure, it's not as fast as the 993, or as refined, but still a hoot to drive, and the parts are dirt cheap (when compared to 993 parts prices)

Good call, I have a late mk 1 Golf/Rabbit with a 160bhp tuned 2.0 litre, so much fun, it has a better power/weight than an R32,,,I have to confess I have hardly drive my 993CS since I got the Golf.
Hope you enjoy it!

I haven't seen one of those in years. They've all rusted into the ground years ago here on the East Coast. Good luck...

I had 3 Scirroco's back in the day and loved them. Didn't VW bring it back, or is planning to?

Nothing like a toy you can beat into the ground and repair for the price of a happy meal

Good call, that should be fun!

Looks like the "First" generation was 1974-1982 and the "Second" generation was 1982-1992 so his car is definitely different than the picture you linked to.

The plot thickens... First generation or the Mark 1 in Europe had round lights. http://pistonheads.com/sales/1022347.htm

And check out the price! $5800

Sweet. I had an '84 Rabbit GTI that I drove the wheels off. No power steering, sublime handling and powered by the same incredibly stout engine that propelled Formula Vee's. Too bad it had electrical problems.

shake, here is a picture of me in about 1987 or 1988 . Although I am sure the car is much older, as I was a poor college student in TX here. Note the round headlights, as compared to yours. I had one later in 1990 that had the rectangular headlights. Fun cars. Enjoy.

I do think the round euro lights suit the Giugario mk1 Scirocco, he spent too much time designing it for it to be americanised with federal bumpers and lights.

I didn't realise VW Usa had decided not to bring tha latest Scirocco into the country,,,it handles better than the current Golf with it's magenetised dampers, orders are in for the R20 verision which has the Audi S3 head and is a chip away from 300-320bhp, should be fun as a daily driver!
