maybe an Enzo? just thought it was interesting and for the most part people are knowledgeable and complimentary to the 993

funny, price wise they are not all that far apart right now...a C2S is about in the same price range with a 355 at the same mileage.

Interesting, why do you say that? I remember Jeremy Clarkson's review of the 355 when it first came out and he loved it so much he bought one. He said it was among the finest sports cars ever made. I dunno, though, I've never even driven one...

I think Alvin is comparing the 993 turbo to the 355. The 355 is certainly faster than the 993 NA.
Save the 288GTO and the F40, IMHO in the 355 is the most beautiful of the Ferraris. It's a fast and nice handling car. But....they are not "real" cars. You cannot drive them 100K + miles without major expense and aggravation.

I had the pleasure of getting a ride in a 355 F1 around Laguna Seca for a few laps and could compare it back-to-back with my car. The Ferrari was bone stock except for R compound tires. The suspension was original. The driver was a lot more experienced than me but even discounting that, the car's capability was clearly beyond that of a naturally-aspirated 993. Between the ~8500 RPM redline, the gearbox and the forces the car generated, there was little doubt as to whether it was faster than a 993.
But those cars seem to have much less tolerance than 911's. The rotors on the 355 were heavily warped, the gearbox had been replaced at least once, and the condition of the interior did not come close to mine, even after 117k miles.

Just kidding. I actually understand, and the interior of most modern Ferraris has the kind of quality control that made me get a 993. And I still haven't bought a modern Ferrari. That and the expensive timing belt farce. I do have an older 12 cylinder, though; I had to get one because of my last name!

good catch....i guess I need to be more careful with the links I send out
yes, just trying to learn about the 355 and what the sticky interior is all about...The prices have them in such an attractive range that I cant help but think a clean one that has been serviced isnt worth a go.
PS...Im flying to Pittsburg today, maybe you can just pick me up at the airport in your 12cyl Ferrari?

Was driving home in the 986 with the top down last night and had a Ferrari pass me going the other way. Not sure but I think it was a 430. Anyway, the sound of the engine alone would be worth owning one. Nice ride...

I have 3 times in my life passed on a Ferrari in favor of a 911 variant. The latest pass was the TT over a 430. I just can't picture putting around 17K miles per year on any Ferrari, let alone reliably and on a long trip. Or as a DD.
