fyi just got an email from Uniden...refurb BCT8s which have the beartracker feature are discounted to $129...a great price for a scanner as long as you don't need a digital one.

Just be careful out there guys!
The effect of a jammer on Ladar is that it displays very high readings or error codes for distance / speed.
Since positive visual identification (through the scope) is pin-pointed for this type of speed enforcement -usually to an area around the front bumper / plate, it may prompt a curious officer to pull you over to take a closer look.
Personally, I find the cat and mouse game to be fun but it all depends on the officer and your attitude.
Have fun.

Terry, do you have some affiliation with Escort? Also, why so secretive about what you have on which vehicle? I'm confused.

I may have some real world experience with the blinder and also use a V1 although the V1 only detects laser. The V1 confirms that the blinder is working because the laser tone continues the go off until the blinder is deactivated and they receive a legitimate reading. I commute about 30k per year and am convinced if installed properly, they work. No affiliation..

Goofball,

Those who live in states where posession of jamming devices is illegal are, not surprisingly, reluctant to declare on a public forum that they own such devices much less have them permanently installed on a car. I can completely understand someone's reluctance to go into detail.

Like Mark, I use laser shifters as well in the 951. Escort ZR3's. They now have the ZR4 system out.

If you have an escort detector, you can link the two to work together.

It is fun when they do hit you with lidar.....then try again....then again....and again as you go by. Honestly, watching the officer's reaction as you go by is worth the price of admission, lol.

Here's a dumb question then. Is Lidar prone to error? What I mean is, if you're a cop hitting a car with Lidar, and you're getting either error messages or numbers that are off the chart, wouldn't that clue the cop that you have a jammer? Or is Lidar temperamental and often gives error readings even to cars that don't have jammers?

Thanks for the reply Mark. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger. I may put one in my A8 first, and then the others after. That way I can have some real world experiences before I put one in the Porsche.

I wish there is a handheld version, it is pretty small though. Best buy has them. I may stop in and check them out.

The BCT-12 is the only handheld Uniden unit that I know of that has the beartracker feature. I bot mine off ebay a while back for $100 or so as it is no longer made. The main issue with a scanner is finding a place to mount it as they are about DIN size...there are some with remote displays but I'm not sure if those have beartracker.

Yes. But I live in a state where they are not illegal so it's not a big deal if he is "on to" me or not. I also have mine installed with a system that lets me turn it off at random. So let's say I live in one of the nine states where they are illegal.

I get an audible that I have been hit. I decrease my speed very quickly, and hit my button that is on a key pad (just like the one that unlocks your car). It deactivates my system. He hits me again (and trust me they do) and gets a reading within the posted speed limit. Alas..no big deal, you roll past as nothing every happened.

FWIW, I run a Valentine along with my Blinder. Because as someone else mentioned a Blinder is no protection against normal radar.

What is the advantage of having a bear tracker? How do they work?

They normally shoot it a couple of times to get accurate readings. The idea is that when your V1 or Escort goes off, and/or the jammer signals you, then you have to instantly slow down and shut off the jammer simultaneously. That way when the next shot comes at you, the Lidar won't be jammed and the cop will think all is normal. By that time, you'll have slowed down enough. In theory it works, but remember that the gun shoots several shots within seconds.

In CA, more than 4 jammers are a misdemeanor. Under 4, it is a fix-it ticket. So, you can really only put two up front and one in the rear. At least so far. Rumor has it that even a single jammer will be subject to stiffer penalties pretty soon. Traffic fines are cash cows.

fwiw, here's a thread on a clean install: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...nterested.html

a beartracker alerts you to the presence of radio repeaters within a 2-3 mile radius...they don't tell you exactly where they are but they alert you to the presence of highway patrol nearby. all highway patrols (and some local PD) have repeaters installed on their cars and they are always on. a bear tracker is most effective when combined with a radar/laser detector so is not a substitute for either a detector or jammer but if you have all three you are pretty much as protected as you can be.
