1997 c2 911(993) purchase, issues/value….
Hi all,
I searched here and read what I could so now I ask…..
I am seriously looking at a ’97 993 c2 coupe with 80k on the clock, 2 previous owners. Asking is $25.8k, silver/black, 6 or 7 out of 10 inside and out, the car is at a dealer that has a broad range of cars mostly European about 4-5 p-cars on hand. Spotty service records at best, cars is on Long Island, northeast car all its life.
Not sure how you guys talk about this but my scale would be 10 is a new car and 1 is junk. I think taking into account the age and mileage I would call it a high 8 or low 9. There are not any real visible defects, a very clean car for 80k miles.
Car will not be DD and I am open to putting some money into it over the next year.
I have driven the car, everything seems to work, the car drives well.
PPI recommendations in Nassau or Suffolk count, LI?
What specifically should I look for, typical issues, etc?
Cost of maintenance?
Thoughts on value/purchase price?
Thanks for your help.
Kevin

Kevin, sounds like an OK car for OK money. If t is a DD in NYC area, I would not try to find a pristine car anyway. I'd offer them about $23K, I think they'll take it. If not now, eventually. If that is a 6-speed car.
At 80K it'll need suspension, possibly clutch, possibly top end rebuild. Maybe steering rack. Maybe lower valves or at least gaskets.
I'd help you go over it, but i wouldn't be in NYC till early July. However, there are a bunch of knowledgeable people there that can recommend local PPI and give more local input.

It would be quite a drive for a car that you might not end up buying, but I hear good things about Powertech in Rockaway NJ. Im sure someone on the area could point you towards a much closer shop.

At $25.8 it *could* be a deal. It depends on how you look at it. If there is nothing obviously wrong with the car and it "makes you happy" - buy it! If you want a perfect sorted 993 with no issues - look elsewhere would be my guess.

If this is the car, It was a NYC car. A friend checked it out for me. Not that great. Have a very thorough PPI done.
Good Luck.
