19" tires/wheels on 993 C4S
Hello everyone,
I am a newbie and own a 993 C4S. I am looking to upgrade my wheels. Do you know if the 997 Carrera S 19" oem wheels will fit a 993? (with 305 rears)
It is similar to these wheels/tires on eBay except with 305 30 19" in the rears.

Thanks in advance!

yes, if you have a narrow body, but the tires will extend past the fenders and will look dorky and risk serious body damage.
cheers

While they may fit, you need to beef up the steering rack mount and beef up the suspension in several areas because the 19s will stress a 993 suspension to the point of failure. When Porsche decided to introduce the 19 inch wheel on the 997 models they at first attempted to reuse the 996 suspensions in whole,--with no revisions. They literally destroyed those suspensions during mule testing, causing them to rethink their engineering. They wound up redesigning every suspension piece for the added stress that 19s inpart upon these bodies.

Well, two very experienced listers agree about possible suspension issues on 993 when using 19" wheels, and I'm having some questions about this. There can only be two reasons (that I can think of) for issues with 19" wheels; 1) geometry from a slightly taller tire munted on a 19" wheel, or 2) increased weight of a 19" wheel. I can't think of any other differences that might affect the suspension.
on 1): I use a 255x30x19 on the front and a 315x25x19 on the rear. These tires have almost exactly the same overall diameter as the 18" tires that are stock on the 993TT and C4S. If geometry is the issue, there is a way around it. Expect a somewhat harsher ride.
on 2): Weights of 18" wheels and tires and 19" wheels and tires vary from very light to very heavy. While many 19" wheels ARE heavier than their 18" counterparts, there are many 19" wheels that are lighter than many 18" wheels. With the huge variation in wheel/tire weights in general use on 993s, its hard to think that a blanket ban of 19" wheels due to weight would make sense.
Ruf, a highly respected builder of high performance Porsches, routinely uses very heavy 19" wheels on 993s... typically with a slightly taller tire than I use.
So... help me here... why would Porsche worry about 19" wheels on a 993? I'd like to hear some science or engineering.
