I've already removed the liner so it's actually touching the body on full lock.

Spacers and a roll would clear it though. Hmm....
Hard to believe, when Hoosier R6 245/35 & 245/40 are mounted on an 8.5" rim
245/35 measures ~9.8 x 24.7, w/ 9.1" tw, 21#
245/40 measures ~10.5 x 25.7, w/ 9.3" tw, 23#

for comparison the commonly used 225/40x18 on an 8" rim
225/40 measures ~9.5 x 24.8, w/ 8.8" tw, 20#

I would expect the 245/35 to fit almost as well as 225/40

And hard for me to argue against the stats. I made no mistake though, the 35 series tire wouldn't turn as far as the 40 series tire which is why I stayed with the setup.

Perhaps the TT driver had a knockoff set of twists that were wider? That could explain it but they sure looked like hollows to me.

If I can find another 35 series tire I'll try to test mount again and report. I should be able to find somebody in the garages that uses the 245/35 tire set up on a stock TT wheel.

Thanks Bill for supplying the measurements.

I think Bill is running his car hard on the track and probably has more seat time than most commenting. I think he is probably harder edged at what he does, his experience, and what he looks for in the handling characteristics of his track car.
Occasional DE or AX'ers are not, nor should they be the same setup as ran on Bill's track car.

If somewhat new to the game, watch this video explanation as discussed by Darin at West End Alignment:
