Default Stereo? - Looking for Alpine iDA-X305 or CDA-9887 photos

Hey Guys,

I am trying to find some photos of the new Alpine headunits installed in a 993. If any one has a shot of the iDA-X305 or CDA-9887 in their car I would love to see it.

Thanks so much.

Not sure if this is too late but here goes. Forgive the crappy cellphone quality pics -- sufficient to give you an idea I guess.

Car is a ROW RHD with pebble grey interior.

I had a similiar Alpine HU on my car when I bought it. I ended up getting a Premier unit to replace since it looks more stock and has some extra features. The 1 or 2 lower than top of the line Premier units looks very good in the 993.

Thanks guys,

I just pulled out a Premier and replaced it with the Alpine x305. I just could not get over the shiny black stereo with the flat dash. I was going to put in Carbon so the Premier would look amazing but now I am cutting back a bit. The build quality on the Premier is amazing it makes the Alpine feel like a toy, a nice toy but with out that solid feel the Premier has . I am going to sell the Premier and will offer it up here first before I put it on ebay.

Maybe it looks more proper in a black interior car, since i think mine looks somewhat stock. Its also a different model.

The flash is making it look a bit more extreme. For me it was more the difference in shine that I did not like, the Alpine is more blingy but is not a glossy finish. The Premier does not look that bad, but if there was carbon around it the Premier would look perfect.

Daryl - Can we see pics of the x305 installed? I'm going to be greedy and ask for day and night (or at least key-in-powered-on) pics too. That is exactly the hu I'm planning.

The Premier looks okay to my eyes, but isn't available where I am.

Yes, the 9887 is very nice. Are you running IMPRINT with it?

The Premier does look OK and with carbon I think it would be the best looking modern after market head unit for the 993. The build quality is simply amazing.

Imprint comes standard with the 9887, which is nice. This includes the option of switching between either a 5 band, fully parametric EQ, or 7-band graphic EQ, as well as the "Media Expander", which essentially is three different types of compression. The combination of a slight amount of compression, with a tweeked EQ really brings the Hi-Fi sound system to life, punchy, strong bass, clear mids, nice highs, sounds excellent

With the x305 you need to buy another little box to use IMPRINT or run an active 3way. I need to run 3 way so I guess I will give the IMPRINT - autoEQ a try. It would be nice to not have to use a 30 band to tune the car.

I have the x-305 in my '79 911 with the imprint module. If you want to use the microphone to tune the system, that's another additional purchase on top of that. Not really sure if the microphone deal is worth it, I tried it in my '79 911 with only two plate speakers in front, definitely helped with imaging, but as far as EQ goes, I wasn't too impressed, but what can you expect from two two-way plate speakers supplying the whole car? Maybe if I did that with the hi-fi system in my 993 it would work better though.

One feature of the 9887 I like is that it has a port on the front so you can go in to a stereo installer, have them plug in an "Imprint programmer" that has a microphone attached. The microphone sets up your stereo the same way the other one does for the x-305, by emitting test tones and reading the response from the microphone at various positions in the car. Then the Imprint programmer sends the time correction and EQ settings in to the 9887. At that point the shop can disconnect the "programmer", and now your stereo is set to the "ideal" settings. I have yet to try this, but I'm eager to see what it does for the sound, as the sound system in the 993 is wayyy better than the '79 911.
