On a Seattle to Florida drive in my 930 years ago, I had a kid at a gas station in Wyoming ask me if he could borrow my car to take his girl to the prom. I asked him how I was supposed to get to Florida if I left my car with him- he said that he'd loan me his pickup- he said it was worth at least $700!

Nice kid and there sure was no harm in his asking. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I don't know about this. I think he should let a dealer let him drive a used 996 or whatever he wants to drive. 20 years ago I would have thought this to be a legitimate request. Today, I just don't know.

It was a battered, rusty old Dodge. The kid was really sincere about the offer. I don't think that he'd ever seen a Porsche in person. He was polite, respectful and said what he meant to say. I thought he had a lot of guts for asking. That encounter is a fun memory from a really amazing trip across the country.

Maybe he's just being honest and up-front. He could just go test drive any car that's for sale, posing as a potential buyer.

response: "for the right amount of fee, anyone can test drive any of my cars for however long they feel like it"
