997 vs 993
Arrwin and all, thanks for the warm welcomes, appreciated
There are quite a number of 993 in HK, although many were shipped overseas (ie Australia/UK - RHD) over the years. Sad to say,
the local do prefer newer model ie 997. But hey, here's my stock 993 targa and my brother has a 993 turbo. That's 2 in 1 family, CHEERS~

Roger the Car Salesman: My name's Roger, sir. May I be of some help?
Memphis Raines: That's funny, my name's Roger. Two Rogers don't make a right! Roger, I have a problem. I've been in LA for three months now. I have money. I have taste, but I'm not on anybody's A-list, and Saturday night is the loneliest night of the week for me.
Roger the Car Salesman: Well, a Ferrari would certainly change that.
Memphis Perhaps. Hmm. This is the one. Yes. I saw three of these parked outside the local Starbucks this morning, which tells me only one thing: there's too many indulgent wieners in this city with too much bloody money! Now, if I was driving a 1967 275 GTB four cam
Roger the Car Salesman: You would not be a self-indulgent wiener, sir, you would be a connoisseur.
Memphis Raines: Precisely. Champagne would fall from the heavens. Doors would open. Velvet robes would part.
The 993TT would be the 275 GTB in the above conversation.
Oh yeah, there was a 997 vs 993TT thread not too long ago. This is all I had to say about the 993TT.

I drove a regular 2wd 997 and didn't find it even the slightest bit special... not very involving and smile-inducing compared to a 993
I am certain that its a very accomplished car but thats part of the problem in a way.. and the general ride and suspesnion and 'feel' appeared to be very similar to a boxster or cayman or indeed any number of other modern cars like regular Audis, VW's etc.. All cars seem to have their suspesnion tuned the same way now.. way too floaty and these cars just seem to glide everywhere with little user input required. The controls are so over-light as well.. mass market appeal so even your great grandmother can drive a 997.

The 993 is the car, but get them both. The 997 for your daily driving routines, including the supermarkets door dings, and leave the 993 for those special days. The 997 you'll end up trading in anyway, but 993 should be the keeper.....
The M96 engine was not Porsche's finest work and these things have several issues. Thankfully, they finally recognized this by replacing it with the new 91A, which on the surface, addresses a lot of the shortcomings of its predecessor.
Although the air-cooled powertrains (engine & gearbox) may be considered to be "old-school", its a VERY durable combination with a superb track record, overall (even considering the SAI "issue").

What year did Porsche introduce the 91A? Also, is there another announced iteration of the engine arriving soon? Thanks.

I think the 997 in the mid $30's will be a much more logical choice for many people for a few reasons:
1. Better daily driver with gadgets that the wife will like or support which may make or break a deal for some
2. Better performance figures
3. Water cooled can be enjoyed in any climate
BUT... the 993 is and will be THE PORSCHE to own over the long haul, I don't have to explain why.
