Holy crap! (note to self - don't get job as an adjuster) 8^)
When I spun my car last year the adjuster said if the damage gets into the unibody itself then it's probable that they will total.
Hope you get a nice car to replace it.

Glad you're ok. The car is replacable, you're not. I'd buy that car from the ins. co., fix it and turn it into a "driver" or track car. You could probably buy it for $7-$8k and get it running nicely for another $8-9k. Otherwise you could break the car and sell it bit by bit. If the engine is good thats worth a healthy chunk, same for the gearbox. Either way it's a money making proposition me thinks.

You can buy that car back for 10% of the settlement offer. Remember Ins. Co. are not in the car sales business and they are always glad to let you keep it . And 10% is usually what they want, but you have to ask for it firmly, and they will. And I would gladly buy it from you for twice maybe three X 's that. Let me know as I need some of the parts and want to finish mine with it.

Mine was way worse and I fixed it. See it here: http://www.jetpylot.com/images/green993/index.htm
I will say, without access to a shop where you can do the work yourself, don't buy it back to fix it. Depending on what the settlement is, you might be able to part it out for much more.

A recently totalled 45K mile 1997 993 coupe in SE PA with similar damage to the subject 993 settled at $38.5K after the insurer offered mid-$20's initially. However, due to the insurance company's policy, the car went to salvage auction rather than being offered back to the owner. The auction is only open to dealers.

Yep glad you are OK. The cost for repairs anymore mean that any damage close to yours will result in a totalled car. I have one similar for a Rennlister that I am just going to start to part out later this week...
Actually another Rennlister in Miami had a 996 that had the seats stolen. The cost of the stock seats (because Porsche does not sell a single part number seat) was so much that they totalled his car with no other damage..... Think about that...

What a great car, sorry you lost her -- but as others have stated at least all involved are physically fine. Good luck in your search for a replacement if you go that route.
