Default Spoiler Ribbon

Mine is broken. It was noticed last year during my PPI. As I understand it, this causes improper airflow to the engine. I have been lazy and have ignored it w/ no problems. However, I would like to take my 993 on a long drive (6 hrs RT in a day).

How serious is this and should I get it repaired before a long drive? Thanks in advance.

I would venture to say that most 993's on the road have a broken spoiler wall. Maybe not here with the Rennlist bunch, but most are broken. It is something that should be fixed, but as far as not taking a drive because of it...... I would take the drive and while in the car call Sunset and order the part. I am sure you know there is a DIY on Robin's site www.p-car.com. Have a good drive.

EDIT: HERE IS THE DIY http://p-car.com/diy/spoilerwall/

I would fix it. The part is less than $100. It takes 15 minutes to replace. I've done mine twice. Be glad to help you if you need help. I'm in Alpharetta.

Thanks Sergio, I may take you up on your offer. I read the DIY Arena993 provided (thanks). I will try the simpler of the two methods and if I get stuck, I will contact you.

Mike, thanks for the P-car link. Otherwise I couldn't figure out what you guys were talking about. Ken

RUF makes the spoiler module that goes up at around 75 mph and back down around 45 mph.

So, does that mean one really only needs it at higher speeds? And I'm not talking about aerodynamics/handling with the spoiler, just cooling.

After all, I drive on back canyon roads where I don't get to high enough speeds for the spoiler to go up, but I'm driving hard and at max rpm (and I certainly don't need any of the down force that spoiler might add in that situation.) The motor seems to stay cool enough.

Is it also partially due to body design? i.e., at lower speeds is the flow of air coming down over the car and into the engine bay even when the spoiler is down? And at high speeds (75 +) is it such that the air flow is streaming over the car and can't drop into the engine bay?

Sorry if it's a dumb question question or an obvious answer, but I'm curious. I'm contemplating getting the RUF module since I don't like the up and down spoiler, and I don't want to leave it up all the time as an option.....

No problem. Let me know.

Yes, don't follow the DIY at Robin's site as it is waaay overkill. The whole thing slides and pops in without having to dismantle half the car.
