My secondary rotor seized due to a bad bearing... which broke the belt at 60K miles.

No other indications before seizure, but I imagine if I had removed the distributor a day before it broke I would've felt something when spinning the distributor by hand.

Hi Noah,

There are 3 bearings in these units; two supporting the main shaft and one supporting the lower shaft.

When the upper bearing goes bad, one notices excessive rotor and cap wear as the rotor tip digs into the cap's electrical contacts during rotation.

I always feel each sealed bearing for roughness once the shaft is out of the way. Sometimes, the seal can be removed and the bearings repacked to restore smoothness; in some cases, I have to replace them.

Thanks Steve! I guess I'll do the full disassembly...
