Default Airbag Control Unit, How to remove it???

I did some searching...

I have a 1996 C2

The unit is now found.... How do you remove the tamper-proof nuts without the special tool? Need to reuse the nuts if possible.

Many THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

It's up under the dash just forward of the cemter console, look for orange multipin connector.

This is what it looks like

Ah Ha!!!!!! There's the little sucker.... Mine is the original unit (p/n 993 618 277 00).

I see anti-tamper nuts holding it in. Anyone have a good method for removal?

I am now going to purchase the newer 996 unit as shown above and replace the old unit.

Thanks Bill!!!!!!!!!

The workshop manual specify's a special tool for removal, its basically a socket with teeth machines into it at an angle. Looks like a part that snap-on or mactools would make but I have not checked.

Regards

I feel your pain, I didn' remove mine I just swapped plugs to see if that was the issue. It was. But I also decided to use a non air-bag wheel. So just moved on.

You can get them loose gently tapping them counter clockwise with a little chisel or standard screwdriver, once you get them turned about 30 degrees they will spin right off. Screw re-using them but if you must just reverse the install.

I assume the security bolts are the same as the ECU. I removed them by making a slot with a dremel and then used a screwdriver. I replaced mine with standard nuts.

356Racing, That sound good to get them off!!!!

Crimson Nape Racing, I will most likely use Nylock nuts instead of the OEM.
