Red Line Engine Oil Break-In Additive

http://www.redlineoil.com/products_m...1&categoryID=1

I can't find the technical spec's on this so I don't know
how much ZDDP it contains.

I also don't know if using this is even a good idea with our engines (bad for the cats?), but
I DO know much of the M1 / oil debate has surrounded the declining
amounts of ZDDP (Zn and P compounds) anti-wear compounds in
recent iterations of the formula.

So...anybody have any opinions or experience with this product?

Some of the gurus recommend just using an oil that has enough of the wear additives (zinc and phosphorus) instead of supplementing. I'm with them on that.

I've contacted Redline directly in the past to ask questions about their stuff and they've been very helpful. I'm a big fan of their products and would use this additive as long as I knew the proper amount to add - which I imagine varies depending upon the ZDDP already in the oil your using. Since I use Redline oil I'm not using the additive as their oil supposedly doesn't need it.

No affiliation yada yada.

I added "ZDDP Plus" to my Mobil 1 oil change in the 944.

Trying Brad Penn racing oil for the 993 right now.

The Redline is an excellent oil. And I think you'll find very few on this board to disagree. There are some excellent oil threads, especially from last year, with Doug and Charles commenting (guys who really KNOW oil). I switched from M1 a year ago and haven't looked back. The only downside with RL is the price. Very expensive. But when I was running M1 5W-50 my in traffic my temp gauge would creep to nearly 10 o'clock, when I switched to RL she stays steady at 9 o'clock. And Robin thought the oil was still in excellent condition after 6k. If I change brands again, it will probably be to Total.

There's a chart here that indicates how much Phosphorus and Zinc levels increase using the Red Line Engine Break-In Treatment...

What weight oil are Red Line users running? It would seem that based on the specs on their website and the temps our engines run that 10W-40 would be the best choice.

I just got a fresh fill of M1 15W-50 but I'll be supplementing it with the add-in and switching to Red Line Synthetic next time.
