Default Cabriolet question

Just wondering why the owner's manual recommends not leaving the top down for long periods of time; ie several days/overnight. Is it just to prevent creases in the top/windows or are there other adverse effects??

You hit the nail on the head-it causes deterioration of the top over time due to the creases. You should also monitor the rear window when lowering the top as it can go in with multiple creases and cause long term damage.

Default personal experience

Last year was my first year w/ my cab. I left the top down basically all spring and summer (not knowing the rule). In the late fall, I noticed these tears.....I did not have this in the beginning. Oh well, I wanted a black top anyways.

The other thing to watch out for is excessive time at speed without the cover on-that can also lead to tears. I love the cab but have had various roof related events over the years which have almost-but not quite-make me question why not a coupe.

FWIW: I had a 911 SC Cab from 1983 until 2005. Top was down 99% of those 8,000 days. It had no tears when I sold it. Can't say that would always be the case. I placed a fine terry towel between the folds.

I have not driven with top up for over three years. Every now and then I'll put it up just to clean it. No issues.
