Lightbulb FYI Brake fluid level Cruise Control relation

A lot of you folks might already know about this but I thought I might pass on some info.

Was driving home after a DE, it was a good wear day for the ol break pads . So needless to say, it drained some break fluid from the reservoir into the lines. As a result, I got the Brake light warning indicating the min level had been reached. I knew what the issue was and so decided to wait until I got home to flush the fluid.

On the highway I wanted to engage the cruise control but couldn't get it to work. I was frustrated and dissappointed that something had gone wrong. After a bit of driving and fuming, had eureka moment . I pulled over and topped off the accumulator and the cruise control came back alive.

I wonder if the brake indicator circuit had a fault or a short of some kind you would have a similar result. Anyway, even if it just helps one person out there, it might be as easy as adding a bit of fluid. Enjoy the weekend folks.

You absolutely certain? Maybe the clutch pedal was just hanging for that moment ...they do that, especially with miles/age, and upon release will come maybe 1/2" short of full up; that is just enough for the clutch pedal switch to stay open, preventing your cc from operating. I know the clutch uses the same fluid reservoir, but I seriously doubt that low fluid in the res. would cause your cc to not work. I think when you pulled over to add fluid, then resumed your trip, the pedal just happened to return to full up position.

Have you experienced any "pedal hanging" at all recently? FWIW, I lived with mine for years and just did the "toe up" trick whenever it failed to come up all the way. Now that I've got a new clutch, it comes up perfectly every time and never had the cc not work.

There's a microswitch on the brake pedal cluster, too. With cruise set, if you touch the brake pedal, the cruise will go off. There are a number of things that will affect it. We were taking a short trip in the C2S a few days ago and the cruise had been working fine. On the way home, it wouldn't work. I checked out everything, even pulled fuses and checked continuity. Took it up to VIR for the Grand Am/Bosch 250 PCA Corral on Friday and it worked fine. Porsches are just like people...Sometimes, they just don't feel like working!

Edward,
Thanks for the info... I am not positive but I don't think the clutch had any hangups. And I still had about 150 miles of the trip left and the cruise issue didn't come back. That's why I concluded that it was the reservoir level switch. But I'll pay more attention to the clutch pedal travel in the coming days and see if I catch it; now that I am paying attention to it.
I'll let you know if the clutch travel is what it turns out to be.

Any one out there with intimate knowledge of the cruise control logic circuit that care to weigh in?? Thanks...

Arun

Headlight washers no... but cruise comes in handy on some long trips until you have to disengage it to make short order of the slower moving congested traffic of course . Did you make it out to the UMD swap meet?
