Bonni, I've done the West to East trip 3 times in a Porsche: Twice in a '70 E, and once in a '80 SC. . . And didn't have the first problem. Absolutely great trips. As someone else said, if you can avoid 11-12 hour days, there is some terrific scenery along the way, especially in the beginning couple of days.

Take lots of pictures and try to do a diary at night so you'll remember the details to post with us.

Enjoy!

Dark blue car on the West coast with sport seats. Isn't that a Rennlister car? Though I think that one was in Seattle.
I was thinking the same thing. I think I saw this car on RL and autotrader, both. Originally from Boston? Had MA plates in some of the pictures?

Bonni - Congrats on the purchase. I'm excited for you. Welcome to the slippery slope and have a safe trip home.

If you're gonna be around for a few days, we could maybe get some local 993 guys to do a mini "993 cars & coffee" somewhere here in San Diego.

Very nice. I especially like the color combo, the tail pipes...and the cup wheels look just right.

Gotta go to the airport to pick up the other half here in a bit, but wanted to make sure I left you with some "proof of ownership." I LOVE IT!!! I can't describe it, but this car fits like it was custom fit.

Not sure yet -- trying to gauge interest. When I get home we'll look at our schedules and see when we can get time off work.

Yes, it is a Rennlister, but in the San Diego area (and yes, it is the one that had Mass. plates). The clutch has about ten k on it with a lightened flywheel. I don't remember the brand -- I will look it up later.

I will be here through Saturday at least. Maybe on my way down towards the first stop I can stop off and visit. I think that would be awesome!

Three years later, I still feel the same way.

Aha, that's the one. I think it'll be a good car. I know the guy who worked on it - Mark Nadler at Exotec. He also did my clutch and LWF as well as suspension, alignment and a few other things. Good guy and a good mechanic.

I think it's a very decent purchase and should serve you well.

Hey Bonni, what kind of compression numbers did you get?

I have only had mine for a couple weeks, but agree about the sentiment of ownership. Yesterday was the first day I could pick up the kids with the top down, and they too were laughing the entire way (they're 4 and 5 and looking forward to when they will be able to drive the car).

Almost 9 years later for me ...and yeah, still feel as giddy when I see it as I approach that Guards Red beauty!! The only thing better than staring at a 993 is driving one. Congrats, Bonnster! And thanks for sharing your epic return home.

The readings were around 185 except for the one that was something like 155. I don't remember exactly, but it was definitely not within the 8-10% range. I'll do a leak down and compression check when I get home (I have the tools for that). I hope it works itself out. If not, I've had tons of email and PMs with suggestions on how to remedy the situation.

Anyway . . . last night when I actually got some clear space on the freeway, I opened it up a little. I almost felt guilty as it easily shot up to 100 and wanted more throttle. It was such a thrill! In my Spec Miata racecar you practically have to get out and push for it to go that fast, lol. This car really loves to go fast. This is a good thing, because I like to go fast too. All hail the Valentine One!

This is not that great of a pic, but here is Bluepurr at the motel in Tucson, Arizona this afternoon. I tried to fix the bad light, but this was the best I could do. Of course, we have a bunch of pics from the trip to the San Diego Zoo, etc., but until I get home I'll use this thread to post pics of the car in various settings. One a day, at least, I promise! Glad you all have been along for the ride.

What?!? No comments on how beautiful my car is? Hmph! Sick of me already, eh? Anyway, we're in Texas now. Washed the car (AGAIN) this morning real quick as it was yet again inundated with bugs. I'm sure there are plenty more to come as we head to Louisiana tomorrow.
