Default CDR-220 w/Hi-Fi Sound Package

Swapping out a CR-210 out of a '97 coupe with Hi-Fi Sound Pkg and replacing it with a CDR-220.
Anything I need to be aware of from a special wiring perspective? Do I need to take out a harness? Anything else?

TIA

If the faceplate has not been converted for the 993 you won't be able to see the display very well. Becker has one for $100 plus the old faceplate.

I have done several swaps with Porsche Becker radios in my 993. I no have the HiFi with digital sound and a Traffic Pro. IF you are going to add the digital sound thingy in your right door be aware that cabs, targas and coupes all use a differant amp for the this. I have no idea why, but the amps are part specific to the type of 993. Now, if you are just plug and play for a CDR-210 to a CDR-220, the link is a great guide. Good luck.

It sounds like you're going to just switch out the headunit in which case you should be plug and play using the instructions on the link that Mark posted. If you have the DSP (the little Nokia panel in the armrest) I believe you'll also need to put in a jumper wire on a couple of the pins at the plugs for the headunit. I don't recall the exact pins but it was covered here multiple times. Before you get things all buttoned up power up the new 220 and make sure you get sound. If you do you are good to go. If you don't you'll need the jumper wire which sends a trigger signal to turn the DSP amp on.

I am going from a CR-210 NOT a CDR-210.

Would what you all said still hold true?

Thanks again. Can't wait to get the new to me 993! I missed the last one I had.

Shouldn't make any difference. Both have the same DIN plug-ins and can take the CDC-3 CD changer. I went from the CR-210 to the CDR-220 (and later to a Traffic Pro) without needing to make any wiring or plug changes beyond the aforementioned jumper wire.

997's are nice, but you are never as connected as you are in a 993. Wanted an S car but found a 1997 with 18,500 miles and many options. Will post some pics as soon as I get it in from the west coast.

I also recently upgraded from a CR210 with hi-fi sound to a CDR220. The install went as described here. I got the CDR220 from SW Stereo and it already had the faceplate upgrade. The SW Stereo guy instructed me to call him after sitting in the car with the new unit out of the box. He gave me step-by-step instructions over the phone on the swap.

Regards,
David
