The ECU part number out of my 1996 C2 is 993.618.604.00 with a date of 26.07.95. Can this ECU be upgraded as easily as the 95's or 97's or am I looking at a whole 97+ unit? I remember there was thread regarding this topic but I can't find it using the search function.

The only numbers that are significant are the Bosch numbers and you'll see those just below the bar code on the ECU label.

If yours are 0.261.204.008, it cannot be upgraded. If you have the 0.261.204.376, it can be re-programmed.

Look for a good used .376 (or new) one and your car can take advantage of some additional performance, especially important if you plan any engine upgrades.
