If you buy a used one, be sure you get the code for it. Unless I'm mistaken, w/o it, you'll never get it to work.

You are correct . LA Dismantler has one and tried to convince me I don't need the code.

Without the 4 digit code you can't program it to work with your remote. I have heard that a dealer can give you the code for a car with proof of ownership. Not sure whether they can give you the code on just the Immobilizer brain. I would give one a call.

I have one tucked away ( somewhere in my spares bin) .... quite sure the code is there, but would have to check. Regardless, the VIN is known, which allows a dealer to reveal the code originally assigned.

If it's not the matching code, it becomes an expensive paper weight.

I've been looking for one with a code for a while too, and haven't had any luck.

The one on ebay has been listed for quite a while. I believe it is the wrong part number. The one they are offering has a part number that ends in 01 (which is for Europe with different frequencies), the one we need in the US is the part number that ends in 02.

I could be wrong, but I think I'm right on the part number.

Try not to laugh (too hard), but I am new to the 993 pretty much, and do not know what an immobilizer is. Thanks!!!

The dealer can give you the 4 digit code as cmat thought. BTW Trinitony, I have an apparantly later build '95 and it has the immobilizer and lacks the basket handle. Bonster, the immobilizer is an anti-theft system that must be turned off with a key fob in order for the car to start.

It's the antitheft system that prevents the car from starting unless inactivated. This is done using a button on the key fob.
