Default 18's on '95 C2

I'm considering some 18" wheels for my car, probably MY02 5-spokes. I did some research and realize my car falls into a range of VIN's that is not supported by the factory for such an upgrade. (Prior to VIN: 99 7 SS 323614)

I saw a previous thread where guys were having trouble getting the extra bracket and longer bolts installed on their cars, for some it seemed that it was not possible and I'm wondering if the distinction is the VIN range. i.e., for those where the installation was troublesome or impossible, the bracket should not be attempted (because it wasn't designed to be used for that model,) and as such 18's should not be mounted.

Any help from the gurus and owners who have been down this path previously would be appreciated.

Here's the TSB:

I added the rack brace to my car after I bought it. the previous owners had been running 18s without it for who knows how long. I've not read about anyone having trouble with the install and its a very easy DIY. The MY02s are great wheels and the rack brace should not deter you!!

Thanks stace, appreciate the help.

Curious to know where you VIN falls with regard to the TSB. Is it before or after SS 323614?

You can look and tell if you have the steering rack brace or not. That was the difference - 96 had them stock. I added one to my 95 (cheap from Sunset/Pelican/Paragon) and am running MY02s.

I'm in the exact same boat as Stace. Car had 18's when I got it, no brace. I am before the 323614 as its an early 95 build and was able to easily install the steering rack brace without any clearance or fitment issues.

Hi Mongrel cat, i have a '95 C2 in the "don't fit 18"'s" range. Installed the brace very easily, run 18" MY 02's with sticky cup sports and have done 10 - 15 track days a year on these tyres for the laste 3 - 4 years with no issues at all.

HTH

Thanks for the help guys!

It's strange, I see in my service records that the steering rack was replaced about 30k miles ago, and one of the part numbers for the bolts is listed as quantity (4) when it should have been (2), and the support bracket itself is not listed on the service invoice. I have a feeling the retrofit is not yet on the car. No big deal though, thanks again!
