Is a 993 (or 964) for me?

That is very true. You might have to invest some money in an older 911 to get the handling up to stuff depending on what you buy and what you want. Either way, if you don't have a healthy budget for maintenance let alone mods I might look at something else. This is probably true of most sports cars.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I've always wanted a 911 since I was a kid (who hasn't) and a test drive a couple of years ago of a 996 left me wanting. It was fast and all but way too refined. Driving fast just didn't seem that fast. I'm told the 993 & 996 cure that problem. Also told that the 997 solves that problem but I have no desire to spend $80+k on a car. Just want to make sure I'm not getting into some maintenance nightmare with a 993 or 964.
Oh, and mine is for sale
