Not to step on any toes, but I heard back from my Ebay guy and he offered a price of $80.
That sounds good. I'm not sure if the vendor locally here in LA can go that low. Again, I'm not affiliated with him at all so if folks want to go with the eBay guy then that's fine.
But I will call the local guy today and see if he can go lower to $80. Not sure if he'll be willing to do that(?)
So, maybe check out the eBay connection.
Guys, just let me know. The vendor I spoke with here would give everyone a contact # or link along with a promo code (which will be posted here) and then it's up to each person to pursue it.
It sounds like we need to decide who we're going to buy from? I am more concerned about quality than price- are the $80 and $100 units identical?
Darren:
If you have your crest mailed to me, I'll forward it to you in the UK. Shouldn't be much. Actually, my in-laws will be in the UK next month so they could mail it when they're over. Let me know.
I'm going to call Eli tomorrow and see what he can do about bringing the price down since we are up to around 20. Again, I have no stake in this so it's up to everybody as to which way they would like to go: eBay or Fastforward in Monterey Park CA.
The advantage I see is that the vendor here has a physical address and place of business. He also has a one week return if dissatisfied. That's why I decided to buy one from him rather than eBay or elsewhere. Since I could easily drive there I was able to see it first hand.
But that doesn't mean that they are better or worse than the eBay ones in terms of quality. It's very possible the eBay version is much better. Sorry, I don't know the answer to that. But I am happy with mine.
The local vendor has done group buys before (he used to be at Pelican) and so he knows how to deal with it. He basically told me that he'd give out a contact that I would post here along with a code. Therefore the buys are basically individual purchases but at a group rate.
But again, if somebody wants to check out the eBay connection, then please do by all means.
fwiw, here's the description of the vendor's product (the mothership of Fastforward is pcars.com):
Silver Hood Crest Kit ( Porsche 911 Carrera & Boxster ), we offer this crest because all of our vehicles don't match the stock golden & yellow crest that comes stock. This Kit comes with the Silver Crest, Rubber Gasket and Mounting tabs (All Genuine items).
You are looking at our refinishing service for the hood crest. Because Porsche will not allow anyone to manufacture these items we can only sell it as a service. Hence we are selling this "as a service only".
We have plenty of cores in 110% condition; you can return your old crest in for a core credit of $5.00 which is included in the price. We can ship this item out immediately and we will give you 90-days to return your core should you ever wish to return it.
Once again these are very hard to come by and they look so great I even put one on mine. If you don't think the quality is by far the best in the industry send it back "no questions asked, no restocking fee, only cover shipping". You have one week to inspect it, feel it and make your own mind up but we have not had any returns on this item so I'm confident in offering this product for your Porsche.
