Default 996 sport seat install DIY

CW here posting as Robin

Since the search function is all screwed up, could someone point me to the DIY for installing 996 sport seats into a 993?

There are a few details I want to read up upon.

Thanks

I literally just finished installing one of these sport seats about 15 minutes ago. I used this link and it helped a lot. Got the drivers side seat in and it took about 1.5 hours. I'm guessing the passenger seat will take less time. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Bob,

the instruction you posted is for manual seats, not power seats.

Hey Robin, sorry man. I don't have a clue about he power 1s. The seats I installed are just like the 1s in this diy. I would guess that the power seats share many of the same pieces/mounting hardware as the manual 1s so you might be able to use a least part of this diy? I'm sure the wiring connection is very different. The manual sport seats only use 2 pins out of the 8 in needed for my full power oem seats. Plus 2 pins on the (drivers side only) for the seatbelt connection.

If I run across the power seat diy install link, I will be sure to forward.

Good luck with your install.

Robin, I put some in my 964.

1. the rear mount points closest to the tunnel needs re drilling, the rest align correctly. There are two lips on the front of the rails that need to be flattened.

2. Electrics patch in pretty easily, its just a power and earth. You'll need to trash the socket that plugs into the old seats and run a power and ground from the main loom socket. The 996 seats I fitted only had electric tilt.

Mail me if you need any more help

Uber,

The 964 must have different mounting points than the 993. I can line up the front and bolt it up, but the rear mounting point will end up somewhere way before the rear mount on the 996 rai. Which is no big deal, except it is right below where the gear rail for the power seat. The 996 have the gear rail for the power seat mounted right on the seat rail.

robin, correct - the 996 rails are longer. I just used the the lock hold for the slider as bolt holes. However, if your 6' plus it could be a problem because by doing this they dont go as far back as OE seats, I'd say by about 1".

I see your point about the top rail. When you've got the two front bolts I slide the seat fully forward to expose the rear bolt holes.

Is both Chris and I, Chris was using my computer yesterday. I posted the pictures today. These seats must came out of something werid as even the rear locking rail hole (with rivets) is still way off from the 993 rear mounting hole.

OK, figured it out. It is installed, but lost about 3 inches of rear travel. There were lots of modification to the seat rail, and the gear rail and some minor oblong enlargement of one of the mounting points in the car. But overall it works great and the owner is happy with the result.

RS man, we definitely are having fun moving to the Ferrari end of things. We just did our 1st Ferrari 360 F1 clutch change for a friend. What made it special was that we figured out how to flush the thrust bearing (slave cyliner) on the F1 system without using the $30k Ferrari computer tool. What's really funny was after we (Chris and I) took the Ferrari apart we looked at each other and said "What a piece of **** car" LOL! After working on German cars for so long we were spoiled by the perfect logic of the German design. Ferrari build a beautiful motor but just slapped everything else around it, it was very clear even with a newer model 360 there were little thought process for the grease monkey that plans to turn wrenches on it. We wondered if they ever even CAD/CAM the rest of the car besides the motor. Anyone want to make an offer for my Ferrari 360 spider? It is really pretty!!!
