The clutch dust is sucked out of the transmission bellhousing by way of the vacuum pressure created by the engine intake. When you remove the tubing that connects the airbox to the bellhousing, there is of course no more vacuum, and therefore no clutch dust gets sucked out of the vent. So putting a filter on it won't do anything.
