mike, I'm alittle confused.
Don't you need the SAI?
I thought it helped pump air into the engine?

The only thing it does is run for about 15 seconds on start up. It is emission based only and has no other function. Removal can only be done on a 95 model as it is OBD1

SAI system was yanked out in 20 minutes (of course motor is out of car). It is now garage art. It frees access up to the entire rear of the motor. We don't need no stinkin' SAI pumps anyway. Ain't it grand being OBD1?

Can't wait to get mine out. Maybe we should just drop my motor to do this and the 30K service?!

Mike
Are there anyother advantages to removing the SAI? (other then the ones you talked about) The engine looks great way to go!!!!!
PS did you find it hard to remove the engine?

Cactus:

I have to tell you this. With the motor out of the car it has made life soooo much easier. I am doing everything you can think of maitenence wise to the car so removal of the engine was the best source for me. Andreas said that they spent a total of 6.5-8 hours doing the project. I believe it seeing how tucked away all this garbage is back there. It doesn't take that long to pull the motor. And once it's out look at all the suff that is easy to do i.e. plugs, wires, RMS, valve covers, clutch, cleaning the bay and motor etc.. I have always been a big proponent of puling the motor kind of a while your in there thing and I prefer to do all this stuff at 1 time and be done with it. Hope this helps.

1st off I have my mechanic pull the motor for me. I take the project after he pulls it and breaks the transmission away from it. There is no advantage other than what I stated above for the SAI removal except maybe a couple of #'s of weight. Also if anything happens back there I know I will be in good shape not to have the SAI system there.

My mechanic has done many and he can have the motor trans combo out in about 4.5 hours. It doesn't take that much longer to break the trans away once they are out of the car. Just to reitterate once they are out it opens up so many other "TO DO" things. with all the things I wanted to do I would have paid more money leaving the motor/trans in the car.

Hello Mike, nice to hear from you...
993 Maniac by nature, I was wondering if you were having the distributor redone, or not.
If not, with the pressure cleaning, I am practically sure some water is already inside the dual distributor.
remove both caps and check the base for any stagnated water, this is the major cause for bearings going bad.
I would cover the dual distributor next time with a plastic bag. my best regards and GL
