I just picked up a 63k mile '95 6-spd for well under $20k. Already had the 60k service. All I need to do is replace weak hood struts and the drivers bolster needs to be repaired. Also, I just picked up some 17" wheels to replace the 16's I got it with, which are in perfect condition with almost new Toyos.

You may want to consider a well-maintained 993 with over 100K miles. Wouldn't be terribly different from one that received the same care but had 80-90K miles. I think buyers tend to have a mental wall with the 100K mark so you may find more well-maintained cars there in your price range.

Ask if the top-end and clutch has been done....if so you probably have a winner..... next thing to do is go physically look at it......90k is NOTHING on a well maintained 993......

Good eye Brendan
It is a '77 GTB that I picked up in December to tinker with. Sold my '73 RSR hot rod clone and decided that I wanted a Porsche as a daily driver. I was shopping 996's and then this popped up locally so I purchased it. I figured it would be better for a short or long term value.

Ok, I'm a newbie here so can you describe what at "top-end" rebuild is?

Search is your friend - now that it's back!

There are quite a few threads on top-end rebuilds on this forum. You can take your time looking through those, but to sum it all up, it involves taking apart the "top-end", which includes the valve train, cylinder head, cams, etc, and rebuilding them. Valve guide wear is the usual culprit here, so better aftermarket ones are used to replace the stock ones. Some folks go as far as re-ringing the pistons and so forth. Hope this helps.

Like mike993 said it is basically a top-end rebuild...replaces all of the essential top end parts(very expensive $7-$9000).....all 993s will need it eventually....same for the clutch($3-$4000) those are the two most important questions IMHO that people need to ask when looking at a higher mile 993. If those two things have been done and you have good service records.....that car should be good for ANOTHER 100k miles......there are MANY rennlisters that have 100-150,000+ mile 993s that will tell you that there cars are still bullet-proof

Yes, the RSR went to DC area last month. I will miss it, but with the lack of heat, it wasn't a winter car. Great car though, nothing like a 3.2l in a 2300# car. I just never had a chance to get it to the track.
