Talking Chrome Tips

Wanted to get some experiences and thoughts on chrome tips. Any suggestions on where to find them and which brands?

If you like these, you can have them for the cost of shipping. And patience as I will have to dig them out.

You can polish your tips and get a look that is almost as shiny as chrome but much cooler.

I have been experimenting with finishes on my stock tips after putting on big ovals. I did an RSR look first and currently have one flat black and one painted silver. Not on the car, obviously.

I've never seen chrome tips available for our cars, unless somebody started plating OEM tips on ebay or something.

However, I had chrome-plated ss tips installed on my custom setup recently. No idea how the finish will hold up.

PJ - Where did you get those? Are they Chrome or Silver? They look kind of yellowish in the picture.

They are chrome. But the heat tarnished them slightly, they could likely be cleaned up. I really don't remember as I have not seen them in a year.

Polish your tips, they will look just as good as chrome.

Try Autosol. I don't know where to buy it in the US but it's really the best product for the task. Do a search on "Autosol" on the 993 forum and you will find pics and more info. GL.

Get a polishing wheel for your drill. If your tips are not too badly scratched, some ordinary metal polish will shine them up in a jiffy. If they're really pitted and scratched, you'll have to start out with a low grit (high abrasion) polish and work your way to the ultra fine grit for the mirror shine. You will need to buy polishing wheels for each grit since they can't be cross-contaminated.

Cool

I wet sanded mines with some fine grid sand paper (that really made a huge difference). Then I put a white polishing wheel on my dremel. I tried a few polishing compounds, the best one was the blue magic stuff sold at autozone. I did not have a drill at the time.
My tips were in terrible shape: bronze color, completely oxydized. I was thinking of throwing them away. They came out amazing. It was a fun project.

I took this picture afterwards, last year, pre-lowering. It does not do them justice. They look like they are chromed in real life.

I used at least five or six small polishing wheels. A large cloth one, fitted to a drill, would make your life much easier. Took me about 1 hour per tip.

Cheers,

Do they still look chrome after a year? I polished mine but they quickly turned bronze again.
I'll have to try Blue Magic.
