LOL... Leisurely for sure!

Terry, youmust have read my mind. I was thinking about a New Years Run just yesterday.

Count me in. I'll have my brother in law with me this time.

To get to Danny's and Slack Auto Parts from Atlanta:

1. Take GA 400 N to its terminus at Hwy 60.

2. Take Hwy 60 North toward Dahlonega.

3. You'll run alongside the Chestatee River, start up a long hill, pass a Pizza Hut on the left and Danny's is on the right immediately after Pizza Hut.

Danny's Restaurant
1203 S Chestatee
Dahlonega, GA 30533

4. To get to Slack Auto Parts, proceed on Hwy 60 North toward Dahlonega, over the crown of the hill, past McDonalds on the left and turn right at the traffic signal onto Morrison Moore Pkwy, go about 75 yards and Slack is on the right.

Slack Dahlonega Auto Parts
146 Morrison Moore Pkwy East
Dahlonega, GA 30533

In, except that I'll be up there (just this side of highlands). I'll come down and meet you guys somewhere that makes sense and drive north with you. Once we get more details on the route, we can figure that out. It's no big deal if I went all the way down to Dahlonega.

Default Route

Does anyone familiar with the possible routes have an obvious meeting place north of Dahlonega? A buddy of mine who has a 964 and lives close to me up near Highlands is also interested, but we're trying to avoid the 90 mile drive all the way down to Dahlonega. Glad to do it, but if there's an obvious place short of that, we'd appreciate it.

Any thoughts? For navigation purposes, my place is right outside of Highlands (on the side closer to Georgia).

Thanks. Hound Dog

We could route thru Blairsville...

This is the route I took with the Ferrari boys last month:

1. From the Chevron station (this is the one right at the end of 400), turn right onto US-19 northbound and go 5.1 miles.
2. Turn right onto Morrison Moore Pkwy to stay on US-19 and go 8.0 miles.
3. At the rockpile, bear right to stay on US-19 and go 5.3 miles.
4. At Turners Corner (B), turn left to stay on US-19.
5. Continue on US-19 for 20.6 miles to Blairsville (C).
6. At the traffic circle in Blairsville, take the 4th exit onto Blue Ridge St and go 0.7 mile.
7. Turn left onto Blue Ridge Hwy and go 7.2 miles.
8. Turn left onto Skeenah Gap Rd and go 7.8 miles to Sugar Hill (D).
9. Turn left onto GA-60 and go 15.3 miles to Suches (E).
10. Continue on GA-60 for 7.3 miles.
11. At the rockpile, bear right onto US-19 southbound and go 4.7 miles.
12. Turn right onto US-19-Business and go 2.7 miles.
13. Turn right onto Oak Grove Rd and go 4.0 miles.
14. Turn right onto Hightower Church Rd and go 0.5 mile to the winery (F).

We'd have to tweak the beginning and end points to suit our purposes, but the the intermediate route was excellent. We could add a stop in Blairsville to scoop you guys up.

Blairsville sounds great to me - saves me some miles and time. Maybe others can chime in on the route and we can finalize later.

I was thinking this was on Christmas eve - not new years. So, we have plenty of time to figure this out. My apologies for jumping the gun a little. The late Thanskgiving has basically thrown my internal calendar off this year (that and a 30% drop in the market).

Any route and any starting point is good with me....I just wanted to make sure we didn't let the New year get started without thinking about a final drive in 2008. I suggested Danny's because that's where I'll eat breakfast and Slack Auto Parts because it worked pretty well last year, but if there's another location that is better for the group as a whole, I'm cool with that.

don't let me inconvenience anyone or go out of the way for me. I'm just trying to determine a good place to catch the convoy that might save me a few miles and minutes. So, plan the route as it should be planned and I'll figure out some way to meet you guys (probably just at the beginning of the route, as that's not really that big of a deal).

For the folks that are coming up to Dahlonega from Atlanta. Do we want to meet up somewhere along the GA-400 corridor for coffee and drive together up there like we did last year?

HD,

There was no route planned when I originally proposed the run and the route Ed posted is really a great drive...It would be simple for you to meet us in Blairsville and if you did't want to come all the way into Dahlonega at the end of the run, would also provide you and your buddy a point at which you could loop back towards Blairsville without completely back-tracking the route....On the directions Ed provided, at Step #11 just bear left instead of right and that will put you on the route described at Step #3 back to Turner's Corner and then Step #4 on to Blairsville.

Terry
