suspension changes
i just had some h&r's and bilstiens installed on my car this summer. everything looked great but, about a month ago i noticed that in the rear of the car the passenger side looked a little higher than the driver. i told my mechanic , that did the install, about it and he told me that he rolled the car "to settle it", and didn't know why the rear would change heights . then, a few days later the car settled back to even in the rear. when uneven the passenger side rises about 3/8's of an inch and on the driver lowers a little less than that. is something wrong with my springs, or did my mechanic miss something? i understand that the rear of the car may move a little, but that much variance seems like a whole lot. nobody esle notices and my mechanic tells me he doesn't know what caused it, and that he would just leave it. should i have someone else look at it or is this hieght shifting normal? i don't think that it is normal. i know that this is a popular mod. has anyone else had this experience with the bilstien/h&r set-up?
thanks in advance

The H&R's are about the shortest street spring there is and the front can be loose and rattle a little if/when the shock is fully extended. Unless it's tied to the hat, I guess it might be possible for the spring to rotate a bit and become unseated on the perch(??). This would only raise the car a bit, not lower it.
Did you get any chassis height measurements either before, after or while the car was uneven?

i measured from the top of the fender well to the ground. i don't recall the number just the differences in measurments of 3/8 of an inch. when the passenger side raises, the driver lowers a little. this is how the car sits the majority of the time (passenger side high).

Is it possible that you are on uneven ground?
That would cause a difference that could be noticible without the suspension being screwed up. Just a thought.
Does the car feel like it is handling wierd or anything?

bob, that was my first thought too, unlevel ground. i look at the car and the ground almost everytime i park. the car handles perferct as far as i know. the change from stock springs with monres to the h&r with bilstiens was day and night. the handling is very consistent. nothing changes, just the height of the rear of the car.

You cannot use the distance from the ground to the fender wells as an accurate measurement. You need to use the factory measurement points as described in In The Airs most excellent suspension How To. I recently did a Bilstein / M030 set up and found that even when the measurement points are perfect, the fender heights are off by over a half and inch side to side. See what your measurements are using these points. There really is not much that can be screwed up from an install point to cause the variation you are talking about. Fuel loads, level of ground, etc can cause difference.

I've got the H&R coilovers and mine seem to be level to the top center of the fenders. I would agree with Van though to check the factory spots for measurement.
and +993 on the noise these things make that jimbo spoke of. It drives me nuts. To the point of wanting them off the car!

Funny, I just put on H&Rs with Bilstein HDs and I've noticed a similar problem though much less noticeable. Passenger rear sits very slightly higher than the driver's rear. I've only done about one hundred miles though so I'll drive it to see if it settles and get everything rechecked.

Sure you can for this exercise. He is interested in the change in the right rear height of the car from when the car looks "normal" to when the right rear appears to be sitting "higher". If the height to the fender doesn't change, he is likely on uneven ground. If it does, then something is going on with the car and he needs to look further.
