My 993 C4 Cab 1994/5 still has the original tape-deck + CD changer that are working fine. It is the ugly CR-1 model as pictured bellow.

I do not want to exchange it for a new one but would love to be able to connect my iPod touch on it.

Is there an adaptor I could use with this radio to plug my iPod at it?

I am not familiar with this model but since it has an output for a changer, you should be able to get a cable that will hook from the iPod to the CD changer output on the back of the deck.
Of course, you will not be able to use the CD changer anymore (but who cares with an iPod hooked up).
Any car stereo place should know if available cables will work with this particular deck.
Another option is a cassette that plugs into the iPod. They are very cheap, work well, but emanate a lot of hiss. Those are usually available where iPods are sold.

you can get a wireless adapter and the ipod will be broadcasted on an unused AM channel, or you can get a cable that will adapt into the CD changer port. neither of these will let you control the ipod with the radio though so you'll have to keep the ipod close at hand.

It's really worth while to get a new head unit. The quality is so much better than broadcasting over an unused frequency, and it's really quite inexpensive.

It's one more thing to love about the 993. You can put any DIN head unit in there. I have bluetooth for my phone, an iPod connection, and Sirius radio, and it was quite cheap to do.

I plugged a 2 into 1 RCA jack into the AUX of my head unit. It sounds ok. It is a fix until I change the head unit.

You can use a cassette to mini-plug adaptor. cheap, quick and easy. Not the greatest sound, but iMHO better than wireless FM transmitter.
I think best buy sells them for about $20.

I had the CR-1 before upgrading to the CDR-220. I was not able to locate an adapter for the CR-1 that would fit the CD changer out and plug-in to the iPod. I agree with Matt...upgrading the head unit is the right approach and you can then directly plug the ipod to the head unit. there is plenty under search to describe this process.

Thanks for the answers folks but the cassette adapter sounds terrible and I get a lot of interference with the wireless FM transmitter… would this adapter fit the CR-1 tape deck? I do not know how the rear adapter looks like…

I have the Drive and Play2 in my LR3-it is a fanstastic iPod interface if you do not have integrated nav, like a lot of new cars have. The problem is, it is not designed as a "head unit" rather, there is a screen very similar to an aftermarket GPS and a wireless control button you can place anywhere within reach. A little black box gets installed behind the dash and some cables go to iPod and screen. This is fine for a roomy cockpit but I for one, in the case of my 993, would not be interested in having anything stuck to the top of my dash so I would not consider this a clean solution.

Website says it's not compatible w/ the iPhone, which to me would mean it also would not work with the iPod Touch.

Too bad, as I'm looking to integrate my iPod Touch as well and this looked like a nice option.

that adapter won't fit the CR-1...it will, however, fit the CDR-220. This is what I'm currently using.

The ipod connector uses the same port as the CD changer. Since the CD changers for the CR-1 are different than for the later units (CR/CDR 210 and 220, TP, etc.) and the connector shown above is for the later units, I think you're SOL on using that connector on your CR-1. Given the difference in the quality of the later headunits vs. the CR-1 I think an upgrade to a 220 or at least a 210 is pretty much a slam dunk. They are easy to install, not expensive, look stock and will take the ipod connector you want. Go for it!
